Software Engineer II, Android Security
San Mateo, CA
You will be a key member of our Portal team, developing the core OS for our next-generation platform to enhance the PlayStation ecosystem. Contribute to the evolution of mobile gaming and entertainment for millions of users worldwide.
Responsibilities:

Build and integrate firmware and frameworks across device teams to enhance efficiency and collaboration.

Drive the development of DRM and security solutions for mobile and media apps.

Bring up Android on new hardware.

Collaborate closely with international teams of UI designers and product managers (USA, Japan, UK) to translate requirements into a secure device platform.

Represent the team in technical forums by presenting designs, sharing knowledge, and contributing insights to other Sony software development groups.

Identify performance bottlenecks and craft solutions to improve customer delight.
Required Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

5+ years of experience in developing Android, SELinus, embedded systems, and firmware interfaces.

Familiarity with isolation technologies such as Arm TrustZone, secure monitor, or memory protection.

Experience with implementing WideVine and PlayReady DRM.
-
Background in secure boot, key provisioning, firmware hardening, and trusted computing.

Solid understanding of firmware attack surfaces: fault injection, code injection, privilege escalation.

Experience with advanced attack surfaces like side-channel or fault attacks.
-
Proficiency in C++ and Android / AOSP (Java/Kotlin and Android Studio) development.
Desired Qualifications:

Exposure to TPMs, Secure Elements, or hardware-backed crypto modules.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.
Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.
$163,700 - $245,500 USD
