Data Center Operations Engineer

Location: Ashburn, Virginia 

Hybrid work status, 3x a week in-person

Sony Interactive Entertainment is seeking a Data Center Operations Engineer to support our production data center environments. This role is part of the Data Center Operations team and is responsible for the hands-on deployment, maintenance, and support of infrastructure within live production facilities.  If you are detail-oriented, operationally disciplined, and enjoy working directly with physical infrastructure, we would love to hear from you..

The primary focus of this position is day-to-day data center operations — including hardware installations, break/fix activities, inventory management, and operational process support. This role works closely with Systems Engineering and Network Engineering teams to provide reliable on-site infrastructure execution in support of critical production services.

This position requires strong attention to detail, comfort working in live environments, and a disciplined approach to change management and operational standards.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Deploy (rack and cable) new server and infrastructure hardware across data center locations.

  • Perform hardware break/fix activities including replacement of drives, RAM, CPUs, power supplies, and other server components.

  • Troubleshoot and support existing infrastructure to ensure production environments remain stable and operational.

  • Maintain accurate asset inventory and lifecycle tracking records.

  • Support vendor RMA processes and coordinate hardware returns and replacements.

  • Assist in documenting and refining operational processes and procedures.

  • Coordinate with Procurement to track hardware orders and deliveries.

  • Support structured cabling activities to ensure installations meet defined standards.

  • Execute approved change activities in live production environments in accordance with change management procedures.

  • Provide on-site support to Systems and Network Engineering teams during deployments and maintenance windows.

Who You Are

  • 2+ years of experience working in a production data center environment.

  • Hands-on experience deploying and supporting server hardware.

  • Experience replacing hardware components such as drives, RAM, CPUs, motherboards, and power supplies.

  • Familiarity with asset management tracking and reporting.

  • Understanding of vendor RMA processes.

  • Strong understanding of data center operational best practices.

  • Working knowledge of change management principles in online production environments.

  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively.

  • Comfortable working in hands-on environments, including lifting and racking equipment up to 50 lbs unassisted.

  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Up to 30% travel required with this position.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.

$117,500 - $176,300 USD
