The role
We are looking for a strong Software Development Manager to lead high-impact teams within the PlayStation SDK Developer Host Tools division.
This role requires a balanced leader, someone who can manage a high-performing team, while also maintaining strong technical depth to guide architecture, review designs, and support engineers at a code level when needed.
You will operate across both backend distributed systems and web-based and/or native frontends, helping to shape solutions that are both technically sound and highly usable for developers.
What you’ll be doing
- Support, encourage, and help develop a team of engineers, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment
- Assist with technical discussions and contribute to code reviews and system design
- Work together with other groups and teams across different time zones
- Help carry out the team's goals and follow the established plans
- Manage daily tasks while keeping in mind the team’s long-term objectives
- Promote a strong developer experience by focusing on ease of use, performance, and reliability
- Recognize challenges, help remove obstacles, and clarify tasks in situations that are not well defined
What we are looking for
Must have
- 7–10 years of overall software engineering experience with 3–5+ years of experience managing engineering teams.
- Strong technical background with hands-on understanding of backend/platform fundamentals
- Ability to operate at code-level depth when needed (design reviews, debugging, guiding engineers)
- Proven experience designing and delivering complex, distributed systems
- Track record of building and scaling high-performing engineering teams
- Experience working on developer tools, internal platforms, or productivity systems
- Strong ability to influence and align stakeholders across teams
- Excellent communication skills across both technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to operate effectively in fast-moving, ambiguous environments
Nice to have
- Solid grasp of frontend systems, including JavaScript, React, and React Native
- Familiarity with AI/ML-driven workflows or developer tooling
- Background in performance profiling and developer ecosystems
- Skilled in C# and .NET technologies
- Experience with low-level languages such as Rust and C++
