TAX MANAGER (APAC)

As we expand the international footprint for Starlink (our revolutionary satellite low-latency broadband internet) across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, we are seeking a Tax Manager to work on direct and indirect tax matters, including managing tax compliance, driving tax initiatives and technology and supporting tax audits. This role reports to the Director of Financial Operations for APAC.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Manage a large portfolio of APAC entities for direct and indirect tax, including responsibility for ensuring tax compliance and managing tax advisory
  • Manage tax audits and risks and be the tax subject matter expert for entities assigned
  • Identify risk areas, mitigate them before they escalate, and provide directions to junior tax team members on how to execute on managing these risks
  • Prepare data or supervise junior team members in data preparation and coordinate with external service providers for the preparation of both direct and indirect tax returns
  • Manage or directly prepare the following activities for assigned portfolio:
    • Coordinate all tax payments and calculations, including monitoring payment dates, preparing payment files, and recording payments
    • Prepare tax provisions for local and consolidated financial statements, reconcile tax/VAT/GST accounts, and work with financial statement auditors
    • Be responsible for tax invoicing and withholding tax-related matters
    • Work with internal and external transfer pricing teams in preparation and maintenance of transfer pricing files and track intercompany balances
    • Research and resolve technical tax issues arising from transactions and product offerings, or as part of the tax compliance or audit process
    • Assist and manage notices and audits received from various taxing authorities
    • Assist with maintaining tax records and related documents
  • Collaborate and partner with cross functional teams (operations, policy, commercial, legal, customs, treasury, accounting, finance) and other stakeholders or external resources to ensure ongoing compliance with all local tax laws and regulations
  • Support the business in assessing tax-related matters as required for new business and product initiatives and country launches
  • Drive and support implementation of any systems or technologies associated with tax initiatives

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or tax
  • 10+ years of combined tax experience in public accounting and/or a multinational corporation

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Prior experience at a Big 4 accounting firm
  • Prior experience at multinational companies with business activities across multiple countries in APAC
  • Experience in tax compliance, transfer pricing, tax advisory and tax controversy
  • Prior experience dealing with GST/VAT
  • Data analytics skills
  • Detail oriented, organized, and efficient in work processes
  • Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively as well as independently

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • We will be prioritizing applicants who have the current right to work in Singapore
  • This position is based in Singapore, and requires being onsite full-time – hybrid and remote work will not be considered
