What You’ll Do
Spotter’s mission is to give creators access to tools, knowledge, community, and capital so their creativity can change the world. In this newly created role as the VP, Data Science you will be leading a team of advanced Data Scientists responsible for designing and building traditional AI based/deep learning/GenAI based models to support that mission. You will work closely with all three businesses to surface key insights about the content, content viewers, and the performance of those contents to let creators take their creation to the next level.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of Data Scientists with skills ranging from traditional to deep-learning and GenAI based models.
- Work with massive amounts of digital data (Web, Applications, API) and sophisticated tools in an industry-leading Big Data environment.
- Maintain, optimize and innovate analytic models driving all insights and be able to communicate to business stakeholders in simple terms.
- Lead a team to build models to further enhance our understanding of content and its performance.
- Work with Capital, Ad Sales and Product to revolutionize the product and services we offer with a data-driven approach.
- Test, implement, deploy and monitor modeling solutions to production systems.
- Partner with Data Engineers to ensure smooth, efficient, resilient, and agile knowledge delivery pipelines.
- Guide strategic direction of workgroups, setting policy, while also having the skills to be an individual contributor.
- Support and train team members on tools and technical tasks to guide their learning while supporting the organizational analytic needs.
Who You Are
- 3+ years of experience as a leader of people-leaders (leading a modeling team).
- 12+ years of hands-on experience in building models using classic statistical modeling techniques and deep learning (XGBoost, LSTM, CNN, RL, RNN, etc.) with a solid understanding of the Transformer and Diffusion mode.
- Masters in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Applied Math, or other quantitative fields. PhD preferred.
- Experience in data querying languages such as SQL and scripting/analytical languages such as Python/R.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and strong thought leadership skills.
- Proficient in PowerPoint and / or Google Slides.
- Demonstrated ability to frame business problems into mathematical models, apply thought leadership and tools from other industries or academics to engineer a solution and deliver business insights.
- Ability to thrive in entrepreneurial environments with multiple projects and evolving priorities.
- Creator obsessed mindset with strong curiosity to learn attributes of creative contents (YouTube/TikTok/Movie).
- Innovative and flexible approach to collaboration and development.
Preferred Skills
- Large Language Model (LLM) experience (training, fine tuning, preferential tuning)
- Experience in large data processing and familiarity with big data platforms and applications such as Hadoop, Pig, Hive, Spark, AWS.
- Knowledge of the YouTube or Content Creator industry.

In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles that will be performed in Culver City. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current pay range is: $210K-$240K salary per year. The range listed is just one component of Spotter’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include an annual discretionary bonus and equity.
