At Spring Health, we’re on a mission to revolutionize mental healthcare by removing every barrier that prevents people from getting the help they need, when they need it. Our clinically validated technology, Precision Mental Healthcare, empowers us to deliver the right care at the right time—whether it’s therapy, coaching, medication, or beyond—tailored to each individual’s needs.
We proudly partner with over 450 companies, from startups to multinational Fortune 500 corporations, as a leading provider of mental health service, providing care for 10 million people. Our clients include brands you use and know like Microsoft, Target, J.P. Morgan Chase, and Delta Airlines, all of whom trust us to deliver best-in-class outcomes for their employees globally. With our innovative platform, we’ve been able to generate a net positive ROI for employers and we are the only company in our category to earn external validation of net savings for customers.
We have raised capital from prominent investors including Generation Investment, Kinnevik, Tiger Global, William K Warren Foundation, Northzone, RRE Ventures, and many more. Thanks to their partnership and our latest Series E Funding, our current valuation has reached $3.3 billion. We’re just getting started—join us on our journey to make mental healthcare accessible to everyone, everywhere.
We are looking for a Research Scientist to join the Health Economics and Outcomes Research team. You will be responsible for researching, designing, developing, and implementing data products throughout our organization. You will collaborate with a team of engineers, designers, product managers, social workers, psychologists, and scientists. You will use statistics and visualization tools to turn real-world clinical data into actionable insights for patients, providers, employers, and health plans.
We are creating the future of mental healthcare: within your first year, you’ll discover something no human ever knew before about mental health.
What you’ll be doing:
- Publish novel, high impact academic research
- Develop and execute study designs for prospective comparative efficacy studies
- Conduct exploratory academic research to develop novel algorithmic approaches for optimizing clinical outcomes
- Conduct comprehensive, program evaluation for tools and trainings implemented throughout our network of psychologists and psychiatrists
- Iterate and improve existing statistical approaches used to develop care plans for individual patients that maximize the likelihood of remission
- Create secure data deliverables across multiple contexts, such as: claims analyses/financial ROI, longitudinal treatment outcomes, provider quality, and risk stratification algorithms.
What success looks like in this role:
- Submit 2-4 academic research-grade publications per year
- Conduct 4-6 additional analyses for white papers or internally-facing projects
- Develop customer facing assets to support external dissemination
What we expect from you:
- Degree in mental health research, health economics, or related field (e.g. Developmental Psychology, Public Health, Epidemiology, Sociology)
- Track record of peer-reviewed, academic publications (>10) including first author publications (>5)
- Fluency in a statistical programming language (R, python)
- Strong presentation skills — fluently tell a compelling clinical or business story with data
- Strong written communication skills — quickly compose client-facing communications or publications for peer-review
- Initiative and ability to self-direct projects and solve unconventional problems
What we’d love to see (Bonus):
- Demonstrated passion for, and understanding of, mental illness and broader U.S. healthcare system
- Exceptional statistical competency in multilevel, longitudinal data analysis (you know what an ICC is, you know the differences between MCAR, MAR, and MNAR and how they bias your inferences, you know when propensity matching doesn’t work — and you can explain all three to a product manager)
- Experience with Github, SQL, parallel/distributed computing, cloud computing, and other data science toolkits
- Experience using data visualization techniques to present key findings
- Ability to quickly and independently pick up concepts and skills
- Experience working cross-functionally with operations, product, engineering, and design teams
