SpyCloud is seeking a Product & Privacy Counsel to join our growing Legal team. This role will play a critical part in ensuring compliance with global privacy laws while supporting product development, commercial transactions, and corporate initiatives. The ideal candidate is a privacy-focused legal professional with a strong understanding of data protection regulations, cybersecurity, and product counseling. Reporting to the General Counsel, this individual will work cross-functionally with product, engineering, compliance, and sales teams to drive privacy initiatives and mitigate legal risks.
What You'll Do:
- Provide strategic legal guidance on privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, and other global data protection regulations) and best practices to internal stakeholders.
- Partner with product and engineering teams to assess the privacy impact of new product features and ensure privacy-by-design principles are embedded in product development.
- Work closely with commercial counsel to advise on privacy-related contractual obligations for customer and partner agreements.
- Support the compliance team on developing incident response strategies and creating privacy training materials for internal teams.
- Assist the General Counsel with responding to regulatory inquiries and data subject access requests and developing privacy policies.
- Collaborate with SpyCloud’s governance committees to enhance SpyCloud’s data governance framework.
Requirements:
- J.D. degree from an accredited law school and active state bar membership.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in privacy counseling, preferably in a technology or cybersecurity company.
- Deep knowledge of global privacy regulations, including GDPR, CCPA, and emerging privacy laws.
- Experience working with product and engineering teams to integrate privacy and security into product development.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to balance legal risks with business needs.
- Strong communication skills to translate complex legal concepts into actionable feedback for business teams.
Nice to Have
- IAPP certification (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPP/US)
- Knowledge of AI, machine learning, or data analytics from a legal and compliance perspective.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, or SOC 2.
