The Role
StarRez is seeking a Director of Accounting to serve as a key leader within the Finance organization, responsible for accuracy, integrity, and efficiency across global accounting operations. In this role, you’ll own the full monthly close and reconciliation review, financial reporting, payroll reconciliation, tax accounting, and audit readiness while strengthening internal controls and scalability as StarRez grows.
You will report to the Vice President, Corporate Controller and manage a team of up to five professionals (GL and AP), serve as the NetSuite owner/SME, and partner with FP&A, Customer Operations, and People & Culture.
Role Specifics
- Work Location: Remote (US) with a strong preference for Denver-based candidates willing to work a hybrid schedule
- Travel: 5% (The percentage of travel is an estimation and could vary based on business needs.)
- Compensation Structure: In addition to the base salary listed below, this role is eligible for a bonus.
- Reporting Structure: This role reports to the Vice President, Corporate Controller.

What You Will Own
- Team Leadership: Manage and develop a high‑performing team of General Ledger and Accounts Payable accountants; set goals, SLAs, and development plans.
- Month‑End Close: Own the monthly close across entities/currencies; approve journal entries; review account reconciliations; ensure GAAP/IFRS compliance and on‑time delivery.
- Financial Reporting & Debt Compliance: Prepares and analyze the monthly financial reporting package and debt covenant/compliance reporting in accordance with GAAP and IFRS.
- Technical Accounting: Draft and analyze technical accounting memos; maintain documentation supporting positions and audit requirements.
- AP & Expenses: Review and approve AP bills and employee expense reports; ensure policy adherence and control integrity.
- Treasury Operations: Oversee treasury disbursements and cash transfers; partner with Controller on liquidity visibility and controls.
- Tax: Coordinate Corporate Income Tax and Indirect Tax filings with external advisors; manage calendars, inputs, and reviews.
- Audit: Manage the company’s annual consolidated and statutory audits; act as primary contact with the audit team; deliver audit‑ready schedules and drive issue resolution.
- Policies & SOPs: Draft, maintain, and enforce SOPs and accounting policies; strengthen internal controls and documentation with support from Controller.
- Systems (NetSuite Ownership): Serve as NetSuite owner and SME; optimize configuration, workflows, dimensions, and reporting; drive automation and data integrity.
- Payroll Accounting: Own the monthly payroll GL reconciliation and detailed review; validate postings, accruals, benefits, and taxes.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and systems; implement best practices and automation (including AI) to improve close speed and accuracy.
- Special Projects: Assist the VP, Corporate Controller with special projects, including global payroll initiatives and NetSuite enhancements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3-5 years in a leadership role
- Hands-on expertise with NetSuite
- Demonstrated ownership of monthly close, reconciliations, and preparation of financial reporting packs
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and/or IFRS, tax accounting, and payroll accounting
- Proven success managing external audit and tax advisors
- Excellent communication skills with senior leadership
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or equivalent certification
- Leadership experience specifically within multi-entity or multinational software and technology environments
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience with automation and system integrations
- Detail-oriented and systems-minded, with a drive for operational excellence
- Demonstrates high integrity, ownership, and urgency
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines with composure, focus, and sound decision-making in high-pressure environments

$155,000 - $175,000 USD
