We are hiring a Product Manager, Data, to join our team located in San Francisco, California.
As the Product Manager, Data, you will be responsible for the following:
- Data Product Strategy: Define and execute the roadmap for data-driven features, focusing on political, legislative, and regulatory content. Champion data integrity, usability, and innovation.
- Scalability Across States: Design systems and frameworks to support multi-state expansion, balancing local nuances with a unified product experience.
- AI & Automation Integration: Identify opportunities to apply generative AI and machine learning to improve data extraction, classification, summarization, and recommendations.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with engineering, data science, design, and content teams to deliver high-quality, reliable, and scalable data pipelines and user-facing features.
- User-Centered Insights: Translate user workflows and pain points into structured data solutions that simplify complexity and drive engagement.
- Analytics & Feedback Loops: Use product analytics, user research, and performance metrics to inform priorities and evaluate product impact.
- Market and Domain Awareness: Stay current on political tech trends, state-specific regulations, and competitor offerings to continuously inform product decisions.
Essential Qualifications for this position include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Computer Science, Business Administration, Statistics, or Mathematics
- Prior professional work experience in building and scaling data products from zero to one, ideally in a startup environment.
- Prior professional work experience working with generative AI or ML-based systems, particularly in summarization, entity recognition, or data labeling tasks.
- Knowledge of data architecture, pipelines, and taxonomies—comfortable working with both structured and unstructured data.
- Knowledge of tools such as SQL, Looker, or similar BI platforms.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate across technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications for this position include:
- Prior professional experience working in civic tech, govtech, or public policy working with political data, legislative tracking or policy workflows.
- Prior professional work experience in a start-up organization
This is a hybrid work opportunity and our teams operate from the San Francisco office located on Third and Mission Street at least 4 (four) days per week. State Affairs offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package to employees.

The annual salary range for this role as it is posted is $166,000 to $183,000 for candidates working from the State Affairs office in San Francisco, California. The final job level and annual salary will be determined based on the education, qualification, knowledge, skills, ability, and experience of the final candidate(s), and calibrated against relevant market data and internal team equity.
