Associate Director, Molecular & Cellular Biology

Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States

About Stylus Medicine:

Stylus Medicine is developing transformative in vivo genetic medicines to unlock cures. Stylus combines engineered recombinases with non-viral delivery to specifically encode therapeutics. The company’s approach is versatile and modular, with potential therapeutic application across oncology, autoimmune, genetic diseases, and beyond.

About the Role:

Stylus Medicine is seeking an innovative, intellectually curious and team-oriented Molecular and Cellular Biologist at the Associate Director level to join our Immunology team. This individual will apply their deep knowledge of cell and molecular biology to co-develop non-viral delivery methods for mRNA delivered large serine recombinases (LSRs) and their associated DNA payloads. This individual will work closely with our highly experienced formulation and platform technologies teams to design, conduct and analyze experiments that assess and improve payload integration in T cells at single pre-defined genomic sites. Additionally, this role will contribute and co-develop payloads that durably and/or conditionally express cargos, including CARs, eTCRs, cytokines, transcriptional effectors and other clinically relevant cell modulators. In addition to scientific responsibilities, the Associate Director, Molecular & Cellular Biology will lead a small team of talented, innovative biologists. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Immunology, this individual will be an integral part of our team, driving forward our mission to revolutionize the field of immunotherapy.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Conceptualize and develop experimental designs and systems to evaluate and improve on the ability of LSRs to insert DNA cargos efficiently and specifically in primary immune cell types via non-viral delivery
  • Assess literature and field to creatively design and test novel approaches for optimization strategies
  • Conceptualize and design payloads for in vivo T cell therapeutic programs
  • Develop experimental systems to evaluate and improve on the ability of payloads to modify cell behavior
  • Actively monitor the latest literature and technologies in the field that may have applications to our scientific and corporate goals to inspire or inform innovation
  • Lead, manage and develop scientific personnel
  • Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary team members and external partners to initiate and progress programs consistent with overall strategy
  • Communicate scientific concepts, strategies, and results across the organization and to various high-level stakeholders
  • Drive and deliver results on time, and present results both internally and externally, including publications
  • May lead or manage collaborations with external partners ranging from academic, CROs and corporate entities to advance programs

Qualifications & Skills:

  • PhD (or equivalent) in Molecular and Cellular Biology, Virology, Immunology or related field of study
  • 7+ years of post-graduate experience with a minimum of 5 years of drug discovery experience in the pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry
  • Proven track record of leading drug discovery programs in immunology, immunotherapy or engineered immune cell therapy
  • A clear track record of accomplishment as demonstrated by clearly identifiable achievements such as patents, new initiatives, contributions to INDs and publications
  • Experience with design-test-optimize cycles in discovery phase of functional therapeutically relevant gene therapy/cell therapy cargos
  • Experience with designing and testing immune cell relevant cargo
  • Previous experience in the area of innate immunity is desired
  • Experience managing and developing scientists as direct reports
  • Ability to excel in cross-functional collaborations both internal and external
  • Ability to think critically, extract and synthesize simple principles from complex datasets and communicate them effectively

Race & Ethnicity Definitions

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.

An "active duty wartime or campaign badge veteran" means a veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service during a war, or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized under the laws administered by the Department of Defense.

An "Armed forces service medal veteran" means a veteran who, while serving on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service, participated in a United States military operation for which an Armed Forces service medal was awarded pursuant to Executive Order 12985.

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
