Supernal provides an inviting open-space workplace designed to foster collaboration, which aligns with one of our core values. This position is required to work on-site 5 days a week.

 

What we do:

The Lead, Exports Compliance works in the broader Compliance Department to provide comprehensive and proactive export controls support to the growing Supernal business, particularly to the engineering organization.

Candidate must have strong experience and familiarity with the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”) along with applicable deemed export issues. Candidates should be familiar with and capable of determining export jurisdictions and classifying items/technology, BIS licensing process and SNAP-R, deemed exports, technology control plans, addressing access control issues, determining export authorization applicability, performing sophisticated export controls analysis, and working closely with engineers in many of these tasks.

Applicants who are solely or majority import/logistics subject matter specialists will not be considered.

What you can do:

  • Routinely review and classify technologies subject to the EAR
  • Coordinate with engineers regarding said classification; advise engineers and other stakeholders on various export controls matters
  • Routinely update the Chief Compliance Officer on current and potential export controls matters/issues
  • Review purchase requisitions and purchase orders to identify potential export and/or import risks, coordinate and collect supplier export classification information, and proactively find solutions to potential issues
  • Assist as needed with general export compliance training, briefings, and mandatory processes
  • Assist in the development and continuous improvement of guidance documents, export controls manual, technology control plans, and other policy and/or process documents
  • Perform first review and coordination to complete end user certificates, classification requests, IT access requests for non-US persons, and other export controls analysis
  • Maintain auditable records of all documents pertaining to import and export
  • Oversee export license compliance, ensuring Supernal entities follow the regulatory and license conditions placed on approved licenses
  • Ability to handle sophisticated and complicated questions related to export-controlled technologies
  • Other export compliance-related duties where aligned with prior experience

What you can contribute:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in various aspects of export controls work
  • Experience working with aerospace and commercial technologies an advantage
  • Pro-active, solutions-oriented, and collaborative mindset a must
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively convey export controls concepts to people not familiar with such concepts a must
  • Able to independently prioritize and accomplish work within time constraints yet able to exercise good judgement in reaching out for help from rest of the team
  • Effective working with and briefing various employee and management levels regarding a range of export controls issues
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems
  • Comfortable working with U.S. Government agency personnel on technical inquiries
  • Proactive delivery of communication and follow-up
  • Clear communication skills

You may also be able to contribute:

  • Engineering or technical background preferred
  • Familiarity with INCOTERMS, import matters, logistics, and contract clauses related to export and shipping terms

 

Base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location. This position is also eligible for a bonus as part of total compensation.

The pay range for this position is:

$150,000 - $180,000 USD
