What we do: 

The Engineering Manager will be responsible for staffing, leading, and contributing technically in the areas of Aerodynamics, Aircraft Performance, and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), including Computational AeroAcoustics (CAA).  Approximately 25% of the time will be spent staffing, leading, and managing the teams in executing on multiple programs and in developing the teams’ capabilities.  The remaining 75% will be spent contributing technically.  As a member of the larger Engineering and Technology Division (ETD), you’ll also interact and coordinate with other stakeholders to achieve broader programmatic and functional objectives.

  • Implement methods to ensure quality of the team’s work and productivity
  • Manage the performance and growth of the team’s engineers
  • Hire staff as planned
  • Plan, manage, and communicate clearly and concisely on scope, schedule, cost, and risk
  • Work with the team, the Program Management Office, the Finance department, and other organizations to plan and manage the team’s annual budgets
  • Understand and develop core methods and capabilities for the team’s disciplines
  • Establish sound, repeatable, and automated processes to optimize throughput
  • Standardize the portfolio of methods, tools, and practices
  • Support verification of requirements related to the disciplines of the team
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary trade studies with the broader engineering team to guide design decisions
  • Identify, plan, and execute aerodynamic and acoustic tests for vehicle components, vehicle models, and full-scale vehicles in laboratory environments and/or flight as necessary to develop and certify the product
  • Assess and develop mitigation strategies and solutions for discipline-specific problems that arise during development, testing, and in use
  • Help manage relationships with vendors and suppliers of services, software, wind tunnel models, etc.
  • Help manage relationships with universities and the government
  • Add and manage documents with product lifecycle management tools (i.e. Enovia, 3DX)
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time
  • Other duties as assigned

What you can contribute:

  • M.S. in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering required; Ph.D. preferred
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in CAA and CFD, and/or Aerodynamics, Performance
  • Experience in the eVTOL industry is desired
  • Excellent leadership, management, and project planning skills
  • Able to communicate complex information clearly and concisely, both verbally and in written form, across multiple levels of the organization - from subject matter experts (SME’s) to peers, the chief engineer’s office, and corporate executives
  • Self-motivated; pro-active; attentive to detail and schedule
  • Deep understanding of eVTOL engineering fundamentals in at least two of the following disciplines: aerodynamics, performance, acoustics, CFD and CAA
  • Experience using state-of-the-art computational and empirical methods to design, analyze, and test the aerodynamics, performance, and acoustics of eVTOL, rotorcraft, or fixed-wing aircraft
  • Experience and working knowledge on the following acoustics codes will be a plus: PSU-WOPWOP, ANOP2, WAVE6
  • Experience and working knowledge on the following aerodynamics/CFD will be a plus: CHARM, OVERFLOW2, STAR-CCM+, FLIGHTSTREAM

You may also be able to contribute:

  • Demonstrated experience in the development, civil certification (Part  36), and/or military qualification of an aircraft is desired

 

 

Base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location. This position is also eligible for a bonus as part of total compensation.

The pay range for this position is:

$195,000 - $235,000 USD
