JOB TITLE: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
General Summary of Duties
Under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel, the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) performs routine, non-professional patient care activities. Responsibilities include assisting patients with activities of daily living, obtaining and recording vital signs, collecting specimens, and providing support in delivering quality patient care in a safe and compassionate manner.
Essential Functions
Patient Care
- Accurately obtain and record vital signs and patient weights in a timely manner and report findings to the nurse.
- Administer simple treatments and/or tests according to established policies and procedures.
- Provide post-procedure care to patients in an efficient, compassionate, and empathetic manner.
- Initiate patient care activities consistent with the nursing plan of care.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including:
- Bathing
- Dressing
- Feeding
- Ambulation
- Personal hygiene
Clinical Support
- Understand and consistently apply principles of aseptic technique when caring for patients.
- Observe patients and promptly notify the nurse of any changes in condition.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and comfortable patient environment.
- Collect specimens and assist with patient care procedures as directed.
Professionalism & Compliance
- Help maintain all clinical areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Maintain a professional appearance and conduct at all times.
- Protect patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and facility policies.
- Adhere to all facility policies, procedures, safety standards, and infection control practices.
Education & Experience
Required
- Graduate of an approved Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program.
- Current Florida Certified Nursing Assistant certification.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred
- Minimum of six (6) months of experience assisting in the care of patients in a healthcare setting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to recognize and report changes in patient condition promptly and accurately.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, reaching, and assisting patients with mobility.
- Ability to safely lift, move, and transfer patients with appropriate assistance and equipment.
- Exposure to patient care environments and potential contact with communicable diseases.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
