Senior Radar Mode Architect

The Systems Development Division (SDD) delivers technology advantage into users’ hands by delivering capabilities focused on end-customer needs that function in operationally relevant environments and timeframes.  SDD considers the entire lifecycle of the solution, from conceptualization and architecting, through development, to deployment, while leveraging novel technologies to deliver first-of-a-kind systems.  Current efforts include programs for airborne and space RF as well as advanced testing enabled by multi-function, multi-modal capabilities.

SDD is seeking a Senior Radar Mode Architect to support the design, development, and implementation of solutions for advanced multi-function Radar systems while considering the tightly coupled aspects of software and hardware. You will collaborate with fellow researchers and engineers on multi-disciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions. You may lead development efforts, as needed, in areas of focus including exploration and demonstration of Radar and EW/RF convergence.

In this role, you will design, implement, and integrate RF resource management, command and control, and signal processing components for radar applications in various operational environments, with a primary focus on Air-to-Air applications.  Central to this role is optimizing radar performance through motion compensation and navigation design implementation, waveform design, pulse compression, and application of target detection and engagement techniques.

You will conduct performance analysis through simulations and real-world testing to validate and optimize the products you create.  Since the systems SDD develops are deployed in operationally relevant environments, the products you develop need to meet standards of quality, maintainability, and reuse.  This position will offer the opportunity for technical leadership, design, analysis, development, testing, and fielding of capabilities.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated achievements in areas such as: radar, algorithms, systems engineering, and test & evaluation. This position requires skills in working with multi-disciplinary teams, design, development, and test activities, as well as proficiency in relevant technologies. Strong interpersonal, communication, and technical skills are required.  Applicants are expected to be self-motivated, detail oriented and have a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate.

What you will do:

  • Support development of innovative radar mode architectures
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand system requirements and specifications for radar modes to ensure seamless integration and interoperability
  • Design and implement signal processing algorithms for Air-to-Air radar modes
  • Implement motion compensation and navigation, waveform design, and pulse compression
  • Support the development of robust tracking algorithms
  • Conduct performance analysis through simulations and real-world testing to validate and optimize radar modes
  • Prepare comprehensive documentation, design specifications, test plans, and reports
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and stakeholders to convey technical concepts and project updates

Who you are:

  • This position requires an Active Secret security clearance and eligible to obtain Top Secret clearance, for which U.S. citizenship is needed by U.S. Government.
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Radar Systems, or related technical field
  • Applicable understanding of and experience with Radar systems (including beam forming) and their principles of design, development, requirements verification, test planning, test execution, and data analysis
  • Applicable understanding of developing and implementing radar modes, specifically in air-to-air applications
  • Applicable knowledge of signal processing and tracking
  • Proficiency in radar simulation tools, MATLAB, and programming languages (e.g., C++, Python, Rust, etc).
  • Capable of working in a team environment and interacting with team members to ensure effective communication and alignment including mentoring of junior engineers
  • Experience in preparing and delivering briefings, familiarity with the execution of technical reviews (SRRs, PDRs, CDRs, TIMS)
  • Background should include a Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of applicable experience; Master’s degree and at least 3 years of applicable experience; or PhD. Equivalent experience will be considered

Nice to Haves:

  • Active Top Secret clearance
  • Experience with algorithm optimization for real time systems, especially radar and/or remote sensing
  • Applicable knowledge of target detection
  • Applicable domain experience in one or more of the following areas: Electronic Warfare, Antenna Apertures, Sensor Resource Management, Large-Scale Platform Test Systems, Cyber Physical Systems, Open System Architectures (UCI, OMS, COARPS)

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.

An "active duty wartime or campaign badge veteran" means a veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service during a war, or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized under the laws administered by the Department of Defense.

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
