Division Finance Lead

About the Role:

STR is seeking a highly motivated individual with aerospace and defense experience to join our growing Finance team. As the Division Finance Lead, you will be a key business partner to the Division Lead and a strategic part of the Finance Organization. You will provide financial leadership, analysis, and reporting while guiding program and division management on all aspects of financial controls, budgeting, and forecasting. You will act as the primary point of contact for finance within the division, supporting both operational and strategic objectives, and providing leadership to program finance direct reports. The ideal candidate is forward-thinking and has demonstrated experience leveraging AI and automation tools to drive process improvements and elimination of redundant tasks within finance operations.

This is a hybrid position based in Woburn, MA, with the expectation to work onsite occasionally and flexibility to work remotely on other days. 

What you will do:

Business Partnership & Strategic Support

  • Serve as the financial partner to the Division Lead and support the various levels of management within the Division
  • Maintain a leadership presence within the division, supporting the many financial needs and helping to assess risks and opportunities driving both program execution and business financial performance
  • Collaborate with the Division Lead on creation of the Annual Plan, monthly/quarterly forecasts, and Long-Range Plan, helping to shape the outlook and growth story for the Division
  • Prepare for and attend monthly and quarterly business reviews, with an active role in the discussion with leadership
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to align financial management with business objectives and ensure full alignment across all stakeholders
  • Provide training and guidance regarding financial policies and procedures across the division

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Deliver timely, accurate financial updates and analyses (Direct/Indirect) to Division Leadership, with particular focus on KPI’s such as labor utilization, hiring, and indirect expense management
  • Lead the process for forecast submissions to FP&A, collaborating with program finance leads to ensure sector and group forecasts are accurate and labor profiles are achievable
  • Drive the review of division level risks and opportunities and the related impact to the financial outlook
  • Track and update financials around subcontractor forecasts and coordinate spending/invoicing expectations
  • Raise concerns proactively, attend monthly revenue and profit review meetings, and present up-to-date financial data, highlighting risks and opportunities

Financial Program Controls & Reporting

  • Maintain controls and oversight for all division financial activities, ensuring adherence to business, contractual, and regulatory requirements (e.g., FAR, CAS)
  • Work with Project Managers and Analysts to resolve programmatic financial issues and identify process improvements to improve the overall process effectiveness
  • Lead the program finance team supporting the Division, with emphasis on mentoring and coaching to help strengthen their professional development
  • Lead the quarterly EAC process for the Division, partnering with program managers to ensure the EAC is robust and supported by facts and data
  • Oversee the process of tracking backlog and ensure funding concerns are addressed in a timely manner
  • Remain aware of all proposals submitted/selected; support in discussions around project setup for unique programs

Who you are: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field and 10+ years of relevant experience, in aerospace and defense
  • History of successfully managing and developing financial analyst teams, cultivating both individual and team growth
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build customer relations with internal customers
  • Knowledge of government contract accounting, including strong familiarity with both traditional contracting (FAR and CAS based agreements) and OTA’s
  • Strong business acumen; ability to link financial performance to broader business strategy and operational outcomes
  • Experienced in leveraging ERP systems to their fullest potential to streamline financial processes and enhance data-driven decision-making
  • Hands-on experience with the implementation or use of AI-driven analytics, automation, or business intelligence platforms within a finance organization
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with an ability to translate financial insights into actionable recommendations for leadership
  • Ability to obtain a government security clearance, for which U.S citizenship is required by the U.S government

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $142,000 - $180,000

The salary range listed is based on external market data. Offers are based on factors, such as but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, training, key skills/critical skills, security clearances, and prevailing market and business conditions.
