Community Outreach Specialist (PANYNJ)
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As Community Outreach Specialists, you will support the Port Authority’s Midtown Bus Terminal Replacement Program—one supporting New York and one supporting New Jersey, with 1 opening in each location. These positions will serve as key public-facing representatives, coordinating with residents, commuters, businesses, elected officials, community organizations, and other stakeholders throughout the project.
- Manage daily community outreach activities, including responding to inquiries and complaints.
- Serve as a field representative and liaison between the project team and community stakeholders.
- Conduct outreach to residents, businesses, commuters, bus terminal users, community organizations, and advocacy groups.
- Coordinate and support public meetings, community events, mobile office hours, and stakeholder briefings.
- Develop outreach materials, notifications, presentations, newsletters, and digital communications.
- Maintain stakeholder databases, complaint logs, engagement metrics, and outreach reports.
- Prepare weekly and monthly summaries of outreach activities, community concerns, and engagement results.
- Coordinate with Port Authority departments, consultants, contractors, elected officials, and community organizations.
- Support job fairs, workforce development initiatives, and community resource events.
- Assist with project website updates and public-facing construction information.
- Attend evening/weekend meetings and events as needed.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience in community outreach, stakeholder engagement, public relations, or community relations, preferably within infrastructure, transportation, construction, or public-sector environments.
- Strong written, verbal, organizational, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce, and Constant Contact preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, public-facing environment.
- Familiarity with Manhattan and Northern New Jersey communities preferred.
- Bilingual candidates are preferred.
- Local travel throughout Manhattan and Northern New Jersey is required.
COMPENSATION
The anticipated compensation range for this position is $40-$55/hr. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, education, certifications, skills, and work location.
