AI Engineer

Position Overview

TEGNA is looking for an AI / ML Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, and deployment of machine learning models that power data-driven applications and intelligent systems.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in building and deploying ML models, working with data pipelines, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and production-ready AI solutions.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and deploy machine learning models for predictive analytics and business use cases.
  • Assist in building and maintaining scalable ML pipelines using tools like Amazon SageMaker or similar platforms.
  • Work on end-to-end ML workflows including data preprocessing, feature engineering, model training, and evaluation.
  • Support automation of model training and deployment workflows.
  • Integrate machine learning models into backend services and applications.
  • Monitor model performance and assist in identifying model drift and retraining needs.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, and platform teams to deliver high-quality ML solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving ML engineering best practices.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in software engineering or machine learning.
  • Hands-on experience building and deploying machine learning models.
  • Strong programming skills in Python.
  • Basic experience with Amazon SageMaker or other ML deployment platforms.
  • Understanding of ML fundamentals including feature engineering, model evaluation, and deployment concepts.
  • Experience working with data and cloud-based environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to building ML pipelines or automated workflows.
  • Familiarity with ML lifecycle management concepts.
  • Basic knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
  • Understanding of data processing tools or large-scale data systems.
  • Interest or exposure to advanced AI concepts (deep learning, NLP, etc.).
