Summary
Terran Orbital is seeking an experienced Sr. Test Software Engineer to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Manager, Systems Integration & Test Engineering, the Sr. Test Software Engineer will work within a multidisciplinary team to create test software products required to build, integrate, and test space vehicles at both the sub-system and system levels. The Software Testing Automation Engineer will develop, execute, and support a comprehensive set of test software applications and tools. A candidate in this role would also be responsible for the configuration management of said applications and tools and regularly communicating progress and issues to management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate automated testing best practices into the software development lifecycle
- Create and maintain automated tests for spacecraft subsystems at various levels of testing from functional to performance and stress tests
- Create and maintain Python libraries and packages to promote code reusability and modularity within the test automation ecosystem.
- Work with responsible engineers to derive test requirements for under-defined systems
- Generate software test requirements and use requirement management tools
- Develop and maintain software tools and scripts (primarily in Python, with Bash as needed) to optimize workflows, data analysis, and Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery pipelines for software test automation.
- Ensure that the testing infrastructure is robust and ready to facilitate the rapid development needed to keep pace with emerging product needs
- Support debugging and troubleshooting on-site and remotely during off hours as needed
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or other engineering discipline
- 5+ years of experience with Python scripting and test frameworks (unittest, pytest, robot, etc)
- Proficiency in Linux (Ubuntu, RHEL, etc), shell scripting, and command line interfaces
- Experience with Docker, VMware, and/or Virtualization and Hypervisors
- Experience developing test software, scripts, and tools for complex systems such as spacecraft, aircraft or autonomous vehicles within a secure IT infrastructure
- Experience creating automated Software in the Loop (SITL) and Hardware in the Loop (HITL) tests for robotics, aircraft, spacecraft, or embedded systems
- Experience with Agile development methodologies and issue tracking tools (e.g., Jira, JAMA, GitHub)
- Proficiency with software revision management control software such as Git (local and cloud-hosted systems like GitLab or GitHub), including branching and merging strategies.
- Experience working in high-pressure, hardware-driven test and production environments
- Ability to quickly understand and navigate complex systems and established code bases
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- U.S. Citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance
Additional Differentiators
- Proficiency in Software Development Life Cycle best practices, version control (e.g., Git), embedded systems, object-oriented programming.
- Experience with packaging and deploying Python Applications
- Experience with GitHub Actions, Atlassian Bamboo, TravisCI, or Jenkins
- Documentation and configuration management experience
- Experience with NI LabVIEW/TestStand (CLD/CLA is a bonus)
- Familiarity with power supplies, electronic loads, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and digital multimeters
- Knowledge of and experience using Data Acquisition (DAQ) systems such as National Instruments.
Your actual level and base salary will be determined case-by-case and may vary based on the job-related qualification, knowledge, skills, education, and experience. $125,000 - $155,000 USD
