Co-op, NGS and Molecular Assays 

Tessera Spring Co-op Program: Designed for students as an alternate academic study in their Bachelors or Masters program. Eligible students would be those attending schools with an established co-op program for academic credit.  

Duration:January 13th  – June (6 month program) or August (8 month program) || Monday – Friday, 35-40 hrs/week 

  • Hands-on Experience:Co-op participants will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals on innovative projects at the forefront of biotechnology. 
  • Coffee Chats with Leadership:Regular informal sessions will be arranged where students can engage in candid conversations with Tessera Therapeutics' leadership team. These sessions offer a unique opportunity to gain insights into leadership styles, career paths, and industry trends.
  • Career Development Workshops: Throughout the program, participants will have access to a series of workshops focused on enhancing key professional skills such as communication, drafting a resume and interviewing.
  • Student Outings and Activities:To foster a sense of camaraderie and community among participants, Tessera Therapeutics will organize various outings and activities.
  • Student Presentation:Opportunity to present accomplishments at the end of the co-op program to the entire organization.

Position Summary:

We are looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oreinted, and passionate co-op who is comfortable multitasking to join our NGS and Molecular Assays team. Reporting to a Associate Scientist on the team, you will gain experience with automation, amplicon sequencing, and Illumina sequencing platform. This position will work closely with the NGS team and be responsible for running high throughput AmpSeq assay to support our strategic scientific direction. Prior experience in the lab is preferred, however it is not required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate will work both independently and as part of a collaborative team to:
    • Perform high throughput screening protocols to support data generation for various teams
    • Troubleshoot basic library preparation issues and sequencing failures
    • Run and maintain sequencers (Illumina: Miseq/Nextseq/Novaseq)
    • Maintain detailed electronic lab notebooks, and report QC results to team

Basic Qualifications:

  • Those with a BSc degree or in progress in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Cell Biology or related field.
  • Attention to detail and ability to troubleshoot assay failures is strongly preferred
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to keep good experimental records
  • Excellent communication skills, ability in working with highly skilled teams in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with high-throughput screening assays
  • Knowledge of liquid handling systems (i.e, Hamilton)
  • Previous experience with sequencing protocols and Illumina sequencers
  • Relevant coursework i.e, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Drug Design/Development, Project Management
