Public Relations Specialist

Position Overview
DCG is seeking an experienced Public Relations professional to provide support to the North Carolina Turnpike Authority (NCTA) and their mission of delivering roadway projects through alternative financing and facilitating the operations of the State’s toll roads. This role will augment the broader team’s full-service marketing, communications and advertising efforts to promote NCTA’s transportation safety messages to increase awareness and change behaviors, as well as increase public awareness of NCTA’s roadways and time-saving benefits.
Location
This position is based in the Raleigh-Durham, NC area and requires the ability to work on-site at our client's office in Morrisville, NC, at least four days per week.
Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive public relations strategies aligned with NCTA’s goals
- Plan and execute with diverse teams to ensure message alignment and policy accuracy
- Develop media materials including press releases, advisories, op-eds, media kits, talking points, and short-form video prompts
- Manage media relationships and facilitate proactive outreach to reporters, assignment editors, and transportation beat reporters
- Prepare spokespeople for interviews and public briefings with concise messaging frameworks
- Increase communication and outreach to diverse communities
- Develop, execute and track public relations programs in coordination with NCTA staff
- Implement a media PR relations strategy based on target audience/media, target markets, media missions, media materials and monitoring
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related fields
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in PR and the transportation industry
- Understanding of the news cycle and news hooks
- Strong public speaking skills
- Demonstrated ability to use metrics to inform strategy
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables concurrently
- Ability to obtain a security clearance
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in crisis communications and/or event planning
- Knowledge of Meltwater, PR Newswire, Mailchimp, and Jira
