The Jewish Federations of North America (“JFNA”) consist of 146 Jewish Federations and dozens of Network communities which collectively raise and distribute more than $3 billion annually to support flourishing Jewish life and the needs of the Jewish people in their home communities and around the world. The Jewish Federation system, among the top 10 charities on the continent, leads the largest network of volunteer and professional leaders who build and sustain Jewish communities that are healthy, safe, caring, welcoming and inclusive, educated and engaged, active in the broader community, and connected to Israel and the global Jewish people.    

 

The Impact and Growth Department is responsible for systematically gathering, organizing, and using data, research, and qualitative insights from colleagues and cohorts across the organization to inform and enhance the success of individual Federations and the Jewish Federation system. As a core component of this effort, the team builds and operates the Federation system’s data collection and analysis and shares actionable insights with Federations and their leaders. We also use the data to develop the platforms, services, tools and support to enable Federation and their local communities to grow.  The Impact & Growth team also oversees the Jewish Federations relational supports to Federations through advising and sustaining professional cohorts. 

 

Position Summary: 

 

The Associate Vice President of Federation Growth will play a key leadership role in the Impact & Growth team, responsible for developing and overseeing the portion of the department that uses information and best practices to create the right tools, services, and platforms for Federations and to guide them to use those the drive their growth especially in resource development. This individual will have a particular focus on scalable growth solutions designed for Federations who can benefit most from centralized learning, support, tools, and business services. This individual will track and optimize progress in Federations using system-wide services to support their greatest needs.   

 

Key elements of this position will include 1) outlining the Jewish Federations strategy for supporting Federation growth and overseeing its implementation across the organization through tracking Federation professional and leadership engagement and iterating based on learnings, 1) overseeing the work and codifying best practices to support the approach of JFNA senior-level advisors to Large-Intermediate, Intermediate & Small Federations and Network Communities in their work guiding Federations individually and as CEO, CDO and Leadership cohorts, 2) piloting new centralized scaled business offerings especially related to resource development and donor retention goals for Federations, and 3) overseeing the cross-organizational build out, optimization, and maintenance a high-quality self-service platform for Federation professionals to access best practices to drive success. This role will be highly collaborative, working across JFNA departments to ensure all our services and offerings are high quality, relevant and communicated to Federation professionals and leadership in a way that works for them and helps them improve.

Key Responsibilities to include: 

  • Developing and rolling out a Community Success Program, working with groups of Federations that have shared data-driven goals to advance through identifying and piloting best practices, taking part in professional development, utilizing training materials and utilizing Jewish Federations of North America implementation supports. 
  • Managing the development of a new robust online self-service platform that connects the JFNA network and offers best practices across the Jewish Federations system including ensuring high quality content that drives outcomes; working with a cross-functional team across JFNA to ensure system is always up to date, engaging Federation professionals and lay leaders; supervising the tracking and optimization of this system. 
  • Leading pilots and then scaling the right set of new core business services for Federations with a focus on smaller and mid-sized communities especially around driving revenue growth. 
  • Overseeing a plan for connecting the most important and timely research insights from national and local studies, including on “the Surge” in Jewish engagement following October 7th, to local Jewish community activities and outcomes. Partner with national Jewish organizations and JFNA colleagues to articulate and execute this plan together. 
  • Elevating all JFNA’s professional cohorts, ensuring we have the right groups coming together, they’re engaging Federation professionals effectively, and providing them with the highest level of information and quality of discussion to enhance their work. 
  • Coordinating JFNA senior-level Federation advisor roles for city-size cohorts; creating a clear framework of outcomes, strategies, and best practices to inform the work of cohort advisors to ensure the executive leadership of all Federations and Network Communities are supported and benefiting from the collective knowledge of their peers and JFNA colleagues across all areas with a focus on resource development. 
  • Optimizing utilization of JFNA tools and services including through enhancing JFNA to Federation communication in partnership with JFNA and Federation field colleagues.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Relevant graduate degree preferred, such as an MBA. 
  • 10+ years of work experience. 
  • Experience supervising a remote team. 
  • Experience as a senior executive, working effectively with high level professionals. 
  • Experience fundraising and creating and implementing financial resource development strategies. 
  • Experience in some of the following relevant fields preferred including Planning, Project Management, Customer Success, Consulting, Internal Communications, and/or Strategic Advising. 
  • Preference for experience at Federation or a Jewish communal partner organization. 
  • Preference for working across a networked system. 
  • Deep interest in advancing local Jewish communal life. 
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills including the ability to present findings in a polished way. 

Compensation and Benefits:

Our compensation philosophy strives to be externally competitive and internally fair.  Additionally, we offer voluntary learning programs throughout the year in subjects of interest to our staff. 

Salary range: $140,000 - $180,000 depending on experience
