THE POSITION

FTF seeks an experienced, collaborative, and adaptable data management and visualization professional for the newly created position of Data Manager. Reporting to the Vice President, Grants Management, the Data Manager will have the opportunity to help shape and evolve this new role during a period of organizational growth and change. The Data Manger will support the Grants Management department to build reports to effectively communicate data in ways that meet the needs of a wide variety of audiences, including leadership and program teams. They will support the Foundation in using data to measure performance, inform operational and programmatic decisions, ensure data quality, tell compelling narratives, and improve grantmaking processes. They will work in a cross-functional manner with the program team and other departments to assist with data literacy, documentation, and analysis pertaining to grantmaking. The ideal candidate will be versatile in data visualization systems and databases, ideally including Fluxx, FTF’s grants management system. They will bring a strong commitment to social justice and the mission of FTF and familiarity with social sector organizations. They will be flexible and adaptable, detail oriented, highly collaborative, and a quick learner. They will be a great team player and bring strong communication skills and the ability to independently manage a robust, fast-paced workload.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Data Manager will work collaboratively across FTF to provide key analysis and insights at all levels of grantmaking and leadership. While the role is expected to evolve with FTF’s growth, the Manager can expect to engage with the following challenges and opportunities:

Provide expert data analysis and ensure quality data: 
•    Serve as an expert on grantmaking data, using statistical and data visualization software to conduct planned or ad hoc data analysis and reporting. 
•    Define and extract data as needed. 
•    Create complex reports for grants management, program staff, and leadership.
•    Ensure data quality by advising on coding and data structure in the Fluxx grants management system.
•    Improve quality of historical data via data clean-up projects.

Support the build of effective data and data visualization systems and practices: 
•    Lead the selection and implementation process of data visualization software.
•    Develop and deliver trainings to build data literacy and analytics capacity.

Provide effective data visualization across the organization: 
•    Help create and manage leadership dashboards with data from Fluxx.
•    Communicate data to executive-level and/or non-technical audiences.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Significant (~5 years or more) of experience with data analytics and management.
  • Experience in a nonprofit, foundation, or other social sector context is preferred. 
  • Strong technical and database capabilities with experience improving data systems and practices. Experience with grant management databases is preferred, ideally Fluxx.
  • Significant experience with data visualization software. Insights on strengths of different systems and experience integrating a new system is a plus. 
  • Ability to support ongoing coding and data improvements and anticipating evolving analysis and visualization needs. 
  • High attention to detail and data integrity as well as the ability to manage a fast-paced heavy workload. Proven organization and planning/time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present material in an understandable manner to diverse audiences, anticipate questions and alternate ways to present or communicate data and insights.
  • A natural team orientation, with eagerness to provide support and a willingness to ask for help as needed. The desire to work collaboratively across a diverse team and to move work forward independently. 
  • A drive to learn and the resilience and flexibility to adapt to change in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The targeted starting salary range for this position is $120,000 – 140,000, based on experience. FTF offers an extensive and generous benefits package including health insurance (with 100% of the premiums paid for employees, spouses, domestic partners, and qualified family members), paid time off (including last week of the year), 401(k) retirement plan with 12% employer contribution, and access to an inclusive family building reimbursement plan. FTF provides up to $5,000 annually for professional development and the ability to recommend an annual grant to the nonprofit of your choice.

This position is based in New York, NY. FTF works on a hybrid schedule and staff are required to be in the NY office three days a week and can work from home two days a week.
