The Knot Worldwide is seeking a visionary and execution-focused Director of Engineering to lead our WIM zone (WeddingWire & International Markets), driving innovation across platforms, core user experiences, and cross-brand technical enablement. This leader will own the engineering vision and execution for a portfolio of brands and technical systems that serve users worldwide, with a particular focus on increasing ACV and UBOs.
You’ll lead a group of engineers and engineering managers focused on product engineering, platform leverage, and operational excellence. This is a pivotal role, central to delivering TKWW’s 3-Year Strategy and our vision for a unified, global tech ecosystem.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Define the long-term technical roadmap for WIM’s core products and services, including global storefronts, vendor onboarding, and lead-generation flows.
- Partner with Product, Design, Data, and Marketing to align technical delivery with key business priorities like UBO growth, new revenue, and localization excellence.
- Help translate TKWW’s “Build Once, Serve Many” philosophy into global architecture decisions that enable brand reuse and rapid expansion.
- Drive architectural alignment with other zones to ensure performance, scalability, and governance across shared systems and APIs.
- Manage and grow a team of Engineering Managers and ICs across several squads (international web/app experiences, vendor engagement tools, etc.).
- Foster a strong team culture of collaboration, excellence, and delivery ownership.
- Mentor senior engineers and managers, ensuring clarity of roles, growth opportunities, and performance expectations.
- Work closely with zone leads across the company to identify areas of shared investment and cross-zone impact.
- Ensure on-time, high-quality delivery of quarterly OKRs tied to WIM goals: ACV uplift, international funnel improvements, vendor success, and mobile/web experience enhancements.
- Remove execution blockers and ensure sustainable velocity across squads.
- Monitor engineering KPIs and drive continuous improvement through retrospectives and actionable insights.
- Act as the technical voice for WIM in cross-zone forums and architecture reviews.
- Ensure WIM squads adopt and contribute to shared tooling, design systems (ODS), and infrastructure.
- Identify opportunities to increase leverage from Platform and Data teams, reducing bespoke code and duplicated functionality across brands.
SUCCESSFUL DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING CANDIDATES HAVE:
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ in engineering management.
- Proven experience leading cross-functional teams in a product or platform environment.
- Experience managing distributed engineering teams and launching products globally.
- Strong technical background in fullstack web or mobile engineering (React, Node, etc.).
- Familiarity with modern data stack and experimentation pipelines is a plus.
- Strong organizational agility and ability to navigate and influence in a matrixed structure.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to represent technical decisions at the executive level.
- A bias for action and outcomes, with experience aligning technical initiatives to business growth goals.
WORK MODEL:
This role is Together@TKWW-eligible and based near one of our office hubs. You’ll be expected to work in the office two days a week as part of our hybrid work model.
