The New York Times is seeking a meticulous and diligent journalist based in London to support a forthcoming international newsletter. As a researcher, you will collaborate with editors, writers, and other newsroom staff to ensure accuracy, depth, and context in our daily coverage.
This is a hybrid position based in London, and includes regular attendance in the office each week per your departmental guidance. The role will report to the editor for the international newsletter, based in London.
Main responsibilities:
- Work closely with the editorial team, helping with fixing and organising interviews, researching themes and sourcing to support our new international newsletter.
- Track international news, emerging stories, and global developments that resonate with audiences across multiple regions.
- Obtain and verify information such as names, dates, quotes, and statistical data, maintaining the highest standards of journalistic accuracy and integrity on a tight daily deadline.
- Work with reporters, editors, and other researchers in London, New York and around the world to produce quick-turnaround research to help writers craft stories that resonate with a broad, international readership.
- Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
Our ideal candidate:
- Previous experience in a newsroom research or fact-checking role with international coverage or global publications would be highly desirable.
- A proven ability to research complex topics under tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with international news environments, including public records, government databases, and research tools.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; fluency in additional languages is a plus.
- A deep curiosity about global affairs and emerging issues.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Collegial approach to teamwork and willingness to learn from colleagues in multiple time zones.
- Commitment to the highest standards of journalistic ethics.
