ROLE OVERVIEW

We are looking to fill a Lead Maintenance Technician position as part of our Asset Service offerings. This is a key role supervising the overall day to day, performance, coordination, management, and maintenance of the specified mining shift to assist in obtaining safety, productivity, efficiency, quality, service and profitability for the organization.   

PAY RANGE

  • Base pay: $56 per hour Overtime: $84 per hour

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct the activities of a Mine Maintenance crew to maintain mobile equipment in a manner that improves the safety, efficiency, and endurance of the fleet
  • Review and manage the completion of work orders for preventive maintenance, planned component replacement, and unplanned repairs
  • Assure all PM and backlog paperwork is complete, including detailed documentation of repairs and additional parts required
  • Prepare reports on accidents/incidents that occur during the shift
  • Conduct daily pre-shift meetings to ensure employees are informed of safety and production issues
  • Sign out PM and backlog parts from the warehouse
  • Ensure that all mining employees are properly trained on the use of appropriate equipment
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment
  • Ensure employee health and safety through compliance with all safety and mine regulations, company policies, and procedures
  • Mentor apprentices and lead a team that actively supports the development and training of apprentices, fostering a culture of continuous learning and skill growth
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS   

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment 
  • Strong technical knowledge of heavy mobile equipment and breakdown processes 
  • Excellent timekeeping and ability to work autonomously 
  • Ability to manage multiple breakdown events while maintaining clear communication and prioritization 
  • Active listening skills with a focus on confirming understanding 
  • A proactive approach to safety, ensuring all breakdown activities are performed with minimal risk 
  • Flexibility and willingness to work different schedules on-site based on project needs 
  • Strong mentorship and coaching skills to support apprentice development 
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to coordinate teams and liaise with multiple stakeholders 
  • Effective communication skills to clearly explain tasks and expectations 
  • Ability to adapt training methods to meet individual learning needs 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 3–5 years of experience in heavy equipment repairs with the following equipment 
    • CAT 6060 Excavator/Shovel, Liebherr R9400 Excavator/Shovel, Hitachi EX5600 Excavator/Shovel 
    • CAT Haul Truck (777,785 & 793) 
    • Electric Drive Haul Truck (Komatsu, Liebherr) 
  • Minimum of 2 years of previous leading hand experience in a maintenance or breakdown role 
  • Trade Qualified Plant Mechanic (Heavy Vehicle Mobile Equipment) or equivalent
    • Must have experience in a Surface/Open Pit environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook 
  • Must be fluent in the English language 
  • Must be authorized to work in the USA without sponsorship from Thiess 
  • Valid driver's license at the time of hire, to be maintained throughout employment 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to lift 50 pounds  
  • Able to live and work at high altitudes (above 7,000 ft. elevation) for two weeks at a time  
  • Able to work in extreme winter conditions with temperatures regularly below zero degrees Fahrenheit  
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time, walk long distances, and climb ladders  
  • Able to work for extended 12-hour shifts  
  • Can work night shifts 14 days at a time and properly manage fatigue  
  • No auditory or visual impairments restricting the ability to see distances while driving and clearly discern auditory and visual alerts/alarms (not including color blindness)  
  • Quick response/reaction times  
  • Arm-hand steadiness and manual dexterity 
  • Weight below 350 lbs 

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or equivalent 
  • 4 years of vocational training, certifications, or trade school degree in relevant maintenance, mechanics, or welding subject matters (equivalent work experience may be accepted in place of formal training) 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Work schedule: 14 days on / 7 days off – rotating between days and nights after 7 days off 
  • The suitable candidate will travel on a Fly In / Fly Out (FIFO) or Drive In, Drive Out (DIDO) arrangement 
  • Safety Classification: Non-DOT, Safety Critical
