 ROLE OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, the Maintenance Supervisor will lead and direct their maintenance team to deliver safe, efficient, reliable and cost considered maintenance to our assets. They will be required to provide direction to the tradespeople and will be responsible for prioritising and allocating their team to the workshop of both planned and unplanned maintenance work.  This includes maintaining a safe and efficient workplace, completing planned & unplanned maintenance events and ensuring that resources are allocated appropriately throughout the shift.

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Co-ordinate leading hands and maintenance crews to manage all mobile plant and equipment on site, during shift. Provide leadership and direction to all maintenance personnel including subcontractors. Ensure that all work undertaken is in accordance with direction from the Maintenance Superintendent and the Project SMP/EMP, OEM and SOPs.  Ensure that all equipment fleets achieve maximum availability for minimal cost.
  • Ensure resource allocations of labor, tooling and equipment is optimized to meet both planned and unplanned maintenance work on each shift.
  • Constantly look to identify hazards and risks through regular inspections, audits, behavioral observations, JSEO’s as per HSE targets and review team member JSEO’s, where required, take corrective actions.
  • Lead, coach and develop team members by setting clear expectations, monitoring performance and mentoring team members.
  • Provide clear performance expectations to personnel and subcontractors and reinforce correct behavior through recognition and encouragement as well as application of timely disciplinary procedures.
  • Ensure down day activities are monitored for quality, effectiveness and compliance to Thiess standards
  • Review and audit mechanical repairs and services to ensure compliance with the mechanical maintenance scheme and the Thiess Management System (TMS).
  • Play an active role in all incident investigations to ensure the root causes are identified and that all the required documentation is reported, if applicable, implement corrective actions in consultation with relevant parties.
  • Supervise the updating and implementation of maintenance related operational procedures and work instructions.
  • Ensure all unsafe equipment is taken out of service in a timely manner.
  • Identify and report on training and development requirements of the team
  • Work in compliance at all times with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, including participation in risk assessments, adherence to safe work practices and reporting hazards as per the Internal Responsibility System.
  • Contribute positively to a respectful work environment in compliance with the Code of Conduct and the Healthy, Safe and Respectful Workplace policy
  • Work in compliance with all policies and procedures and the Employee Handbook
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

 REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Extensive knowledge of mobile plant maintenance processes and requirements
  • Some knowledge of all trades and equipment
  • Ability to lead a team and manage crews in daily tasks and performance management capacities.
  • Ability to plan daily schedule and adapt to changes in schedule on ad hoc basis
  • Basic understanding of contract management, relevant systems and legislation relating to safety and environment
  • Strong ability and experience to grow, lead and support a multidisciplinary maintenance team
  • Demonstrated high level of analytical ability and ability to problem solve
  • High level of attention to detail and excellent follow-up skills
  • Professional and able to work with the leadership team to drive project outcomes
  • Excellent planning, leadership, organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

 JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of Generic First Line Supervisor Common Core – Program #770141 (Surface Mining)
  • 5+ Years of mining or heavy industrial construction experience considered an asset
  • 2 year minimum experience as a Leading Hand, Supervisor, or Planner
  • JDE or equivalent ERP system proficiency preferred
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills leading and motivating staff as well as effectively communicating with all levels of management and professionals internally and externally
  • Must be fluent in the English language
  • Authorization to work lawfully in Canada without sponsorship from Thiess is required (Applicants who qualify as an Intra-Company Transfer under the International Mobility Program may receive assistance from Thiess)

 EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Relevant industry experience
  • Journeyman ticket an asset
  • Any training or courses in team management and team leadership (eg. Frontline leader)

 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Currently based out of the Stobie Open Pit Mine in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada
  • Work schedule: 7 on / 7 off, rotating 12-hour shifts (days and nights)
  • Occasional local travel as needed
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle is required
  • Subject to pre-employment conditions, including pre-employment medical, criminal background check, education/employment/professional reference checks

 The annual salary range for this role is minimum $124,085 to a maximum $155,107 (CAD). The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Thiess considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills and is ultimately determined at management’s discretion
