Meet the Team
Support Torc’s Test Safety program by collaborating with product development, engineering, Safety and Regulatory and fleet operation teams to perform Operational Safety Analysis and monitor, assess, and improve the safe testing of Autonomous Driving System (ADS)-equipped heavy trucks.
What You’ll Do

Drive, Perform and Maintain Operational Safety Concept and operational safety relevant work products.

Develop and maintain Test Safety processes for software releases and public road testing.

Lead/perform safety risk assessments with internal stakeholders.

Develop and document Operational Safety plan, requirements and concept.

Partner with product management, design engineering, service, and maintenance to driver Operational Safety Design.

Support the development and maintenance of operational procedures related to testing autonomous vehicles safely.

Provide data analyses to maintain a safety case for Autonomous Vehicle platforms, including real-time safety support of operational testing.

Develop metrics to track Operational Safety of autonomous vehicle testing.

Evaluate safety results of tests and develop risk mitigation plans.

Support Torc accident and incident response process, mishap investigation, and corrective action plans.

Review engineering design specifications, test operations procedures, change proposals, deficiency reports, exceptions, and other requests for potential test safety impacts.

Support preparation of presentations, analyses, and reports for customer & Torc Safety Board meetings, program design reviews, and test readiness reviews.

Perform and contribute to safety & reliability analysis (e.g., FMEA, DFMEA, DFMEDA, FTA, STPA, etc.).

Support cross functional product development engineering teams to identify and close gaps to ensure component and system level safety compliance.

Review system technical specifications/requirements, system design documents, unit and system level software development, test plans, test reports

Coordinate and collaborate across stakeholders to ensure test safety is integral to all autonomous development testing and operations.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or related technical field plus demonstrates competences and technical proficiencies typically acquired through 4+ years of experience or;
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering or related technical field plus demonstrates competences and technical proficiencies typically acquired through 0-3+ years of experience.

Knowledge of automotive, heavy duty trucks, or aerospace products and industries.

Professional experience in automotive and surface transportation safety industry.

Experience with or theoretical knowledge of Systems Engineering, Hazard and Risk Assessment (HARA), Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and/or Systems Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA).

Critical/logical thinking to identify problems and provide solutions to ensure efficiency, safety, and quality.

Exceptional problem-solving skills, able to identify root causes in complex integrated systems.

Experience in project management, vehicle program management, product development life cycle, and project planning.

Experience with requirements management tools (such as JAMA) and framework to document, review, and approve safety requirements.

Strong interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills.

Detail oriented, reliable, and self-motivated.

Ability to work in an environment of ambiguity and ongoing change.

Bonus Points

Experience performing systematic and comprehensive assessments on the system architecture, integrated design, software, support equipment, and installation of the subsystems, and experiments to ensure that relevant safety requirements are met.

Experience with robotics, autonomous vehicle operations, or systems integration of complex electro-mechanical systems desired

Experience using ROS is preferred.

Programming experience in C++ and Python is desired.

Demonstrated safety engineering analyses.

Vehicle program support and root cause analysis for vehicle issues

Experience ensuring and auditing compliance.

ISO 26262, IEC 61508 and ISO 21448 Proficiency.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several geographic markets. Pay is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Torc's total compensation package will also include our corporate bonus and stock option plan. Dependent on the position offered, sign-on payments, relocation, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
