Associate Technical Manager (Viator)

This is a hybrid role based out of the Lisbon Tripadvisor office.
What you'll do:
- Lead and develop a small high-performing technical pod by actively mentoring and developing engineers, as well as supporting hiring processes.
- Help foster a collaborative and innovative pod culture.
- Partner with your Product Manager to create and execute a roadmap for the next quarter for your pod, and track effective execution using Agile development processes.
- Contribute code and technical designs at your pod level.
- Ensure the engineers in your pod understand and work towards its technical vision.
- Advocate for technical initiatives, and work closely with your Product Manager to build up a backlog of both product and technical initiatives.
- Communicate business goals and priorities to your pod.
- Help ensure the operational health of the systems you own, including bug prioritisation and resolution, security vulnerability detection and remediation, incidents and retrospectives, and ensuring the pod has quality documentation.
What you'll need:
- At least 7 years experience in commercial software development, including 2 years at a senior level.
- Significant experience in mentoring and tech leading more junior engineers.
- Experience in contributing to projects and working within cross-functional teams in dynamic environments.
- Background of working in a product-focused company, collaborating closely with stakeholders to build up a backlog of product and technical initiatives.
- A solid understanding of the technologies you will be responsible for; this means commercial experience developing full stack systems in Java.
- Good understanding of modern distributed architectures, SOLID, and DRY principles.
- Knowledge and understanding of CI/CD, distributed version control, and TDD.
- Ability to break down complex problems into simple solutions.
