Overview of Opportunity:
Two Six Technologies is seeking a Cryptographer to join our Applied Mathematics team. In this role, you will work on cutting-edge cryptographic research and development, collaborating with a diverse set of clients, including DARPA, major ISPs, and innovative tech startups. You will have the opportunity to develop, analyze, and implement cryptographic techniques while becoming a trusted technical advisor in the field.
Job Responsibilities & Duties
- Participate in applied cryptography research programs, developing and analyzing cryptographic algorithms and protocols.
- Assist the formal methods team in evaluating cryptographic software and systems for functional correctness and security vulnerabilities.
- Solve complex, unsolved technical problems, pushing the boundaries of modern cryptographic techniques.
- Collaborate with security researchers, mathematicians, and software engineers to integrate cryptographic solutions into real-world applications.
- Develop and optimize cryptographic implementations for security, performance, and scalability.
- Stay ahead of emerging threats and contribute to continuous improvements in cryptographic security.
- Document research findings, cryptographic designs, and security analyses for internal and external use.
- Work in a small team setting, where you will have an outsized impact on research direction and execution.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
- A Master’s or Ph.D. may be considered in place of some years of experience.
- 3-5 years of experience in cryptographic algorithm design and protocol development, including proficiency in several of the following:
- Standard public key algorithms
- Symmetric key ciphers and encryption modes
- Cryptographic hash functions
- Proficiency in at least one functional or imperative programming language (e.g., Python, C/C++, Rust, or Java).
Nice If You Have
- Experience with advanced cryptographic techniques, including:
- Zero-knowledge proofs
- Secure multiparty computation
- Post quantum/quantum-resistant cryptography
- Fully homomorphic encryption
- Publication history in cryptography research journals or conferences.
- Familiarity with formal verification techniques for cryptographic systems.
- Exposure to functional programming concepts (higher-order functions, monads, type classes, etc.).
- Strong mathematical foundation, including number theory, linear algebra, and combinatorics
Security Clearance:
- Active Top Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain SCI

The projected salary range listed for this position is annualized. This is a general guideline and not a guarantee of salary. Salary is one component of our total compensation package and the specific salary offered is determined by various factors, including, but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills, geographic location, as well as contract specific affordability and organizational requirements.
Salary Range
$88,200 - $178,700 USD
