Ultimate Medical Academy is a non-profit healthcare educational institution with a national presence. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida and founded in 1994, UMA offers content-rich, interactive online programs as well as hands-on training at our Clearwater, Florida campus.

Purpose of the Position:
The People Relations Partner supports a positive and compliant work environment by leading People Relations (“PR”) programs and procedures across the organization. This role will manage investigations, resolve workplace conflicts, and ensure adherence to labor laws and company policies. This position will support legal, leadership, and the people team to assess risk, recommend actions, and implement resolution strategies. This role will exercise strong judgment, analytical skills, and a solid understanding of employment law to drive successful results.
What you’ll do:
- Lead Internal Investigations: Conduct and resolve PR investigations by applying appropriate investigation plan, interview techniques, and providing recommendations with supporting documentation. Partner with HR Business Partners, Legal, and management to address investigation outcomes and develop action plans.
- Provide people relations administrative support: Provide a variety of tasks related to PR case handling and documentation. Responsibilities include, but not limited to, responding to escalated cases through the case management system in a timely manner, monitoring case entry and tracking progress, ensuring all cases are thoroughly documented and closed promptly, and analyzing case management data to identify trends and support process improvements.
- Data analysis: Conduct data analysis to support PR initiatives by reviewing key metrics such as case management data, exit interview feedback, and people team reports. Use insights to identify patterns and provide proactive recommendations on policies, programs, and practices that address emerging issues, recurring trends, or specific topics impacting the team member experience.
- Provide PR consultation and support: Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and support to leaders, People Team members, and team members on a range of PR matters, including performance management, workplace complaints, employment law interpretation, and conflict resolution. Ensure consistent and compliant handling of issues to minimize risks while promoting a positive and productive work environment.
- Training and development: Deliver targeted training to managers and people team members to strengthen PR capabilities. Support understanding of company policies and employment laws through coaching, structured training programs, and performance management guidance.
- Performance management support: Guide and support managers on performance-related matters, including performance improvement plans, corrective actions, and overall performance management practices. Ensure practices align with company philosophy, policies, and processes through coaching and training.
- Unemployment claims: Represent the organization in unemployment claim hearings, provide accurate documentation and testimony.
- Employment law compliance and legal partnership: Support the development and communication of all People related policies, procedures, and practices. Ensure policies comply with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws across multiple states. Partner with Legal to review and align PR processes with current legislation, supporting a compliant and consistent approach to workplace practices.

Required Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, labor relations, psychology, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5 years of progressive experience in employee and labor relations, or equivalent experience as an employment attorney, workplace investigator, or in a similar role involving policy interpretation and application of legal guidance.
- Demonstrated experience working across multistate environment.
- Skilled in handling sensitive employee matters with discretion and sound judgment, including escalation to legal or supervisor when appropriate.
- Proven success leading PR investigations across all leadership levels, with a customer-focused approach in fast-paced environment.
- Excellent critical and logical thinking skills, with the ability to analyze complex information and identify underlying principles, causes, or facts.
- Proven ability to manage conflict/challenge thinking and interact professionally with team members and stakeholders at all organizational levels.
- Ability to recognize and support team members needs through effective coaching and mentoring, while consistently interacting with others in a sensitive, tactful, diplomatic, and professional manner.
- Ability to deliver impactful training and drive process improvements.
- Fundamental understanding of HR policies, employment laws, legal standards, and best practices regarding performance management, progressive discipline, and performance improvement plans.
- Strong time management, task prioritization, and organizational skills, with proven experience managing multiple projects effectively and meeting deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to craft clear and cohesive emails, summaries, and investigation plans/reports.
- Ability to professionally communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
- Ability to contribute to a diverse and inclusive work environment.
- Computer literacy/basic computer skills to effectively navigate and utilize the technology required for the role.
Preferred Requirements:
- HR Certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR).
- Excellent investigative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to organize and analyze data effectively and make sound decisions using strong reasoning and judgment.
- Experience providing guidance on a broad range of employee relations matters, including but not limited to discrimination, harassment, wage and hour issues, retaliation claims, and performance management.
- Ability to establish strong-cross functional relationships at all levels.
- Ability to understand, convey opinions, and recommendations both verbally and in writing.
- In-depth knowledge of employment and labor laws (e.g., FMLA, ADA, EEO), HR best practices, with a proven ability to interpret policies and apply legal guidance effectively.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other business tools such as Microsoft Teams.
Compliance:
- Demonstrate knowledge of and carefully follow all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the U.S. Department of Education, accrediting agencies, state regulations, and internal policies and procedures.
- Effectively communicate compliance requirements to other staff as appropriate and quickly escalate any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- This is a remote position.
- Home office set up, quiet place to work, and ability to hard wire into high-speed internet connection.
- May require setup of computer equipment; accommodation consideration available upon request.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
Anticipated starting salary is based on experience and qualifications.
Compensation Range
$80,000 - $85,000 USD
