Machine Learning GPU Inference Optimization Intern

About The Team

At Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), the Future Technology Group explores new ways to push the boundaries of PlayStation experiences. Our software engineering team is developing CNNForge, a GPU machine learning inference tool designed to support future innovations in areas like game streaming and graphics system optimization.

As an intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience working with GPU programming, machine learning, and high-performance systems. You’ll contribute directly to the evolution of CNNForge and build practical skills that connect advanced research with real-world applications in interactive entertainment.

What You’ll Do

  • Set up a train/test/deploy pipeline for a simple CNN-based ML model.

  • Document challenges and feature requests for CnnForge.

  • Implement ML operators (via compute shaders) and add test cases.

  • Evaluate existing tools and propose potential improvements to our solutions.

What We’re Looking For

  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

  • Comfortable with C++ and Python.

  • Basic understanding of machine learning (CNNs a plus).

  • Interest in GPU architecture and experience writing graphics or compute shaders (e.g., HLSL, CUDA).

  • Curious, eager to learn, and able to document and share ideas.

  • Experience with creating visualizations and diagrams to analyze complex data and debug using frameworks such as matplotlib or Plotly is a plus.

Eligibility

  • Students with expected graduation between December 2026 and Spring 2027 from an accredited university. Advanced Degree - Master’s

  • Able to work during one of the following periods: May 18th - August 7th or June 15th - September 4th. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.

  • Must be available for the entire 12-week internship period.

Our intern positions offer a fixed hourly pay rate. Please note that the pay rate is exclusive to the internship period and may not reflect what pay may look like following the completion of an internship.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location. 

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
