Job Description:
Valiant Harbor International is seeking a highly experienced and clinically grounded Physician and Clinical Systems SETA (Scientific, Engineering, and Technical Assistance) for a part-time (.5 FTE) position supporting transformative health innovation efforts at the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H). This role will serve as a key advisor to program leadership, bringing deep expertise in clinical practice, patient care workflows, and the integration of advanced data analytics, including AI and machine learning, into healthcare delivery systems. The ideal candidate will provide strategic guidance on program design, technical evaluation, and implementation oversight of initiatives that aim to revolutionize patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as an internal subject matter expert on physician practice and complex healthcare delivery ecosystems, offering real-world insights into patients and provider challenges.
- Advise on the conceptual and technical soundness of programmatic goals, ensuring alignment with clinical realities, data strategies, and patient-centric design.
- Assist in setting program goals, expectations, and budgets for projects within the scope of clinical systems, data-driven care, and AI integration.
- Support technical evaluations and performance reviews of funded projects, identifying gaps, risks, and opportunities for enhancement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and ARPA-H leadership to shape transformative health programs grounded in clinical credibility and technological innovation.
- Contribute to strategic planning sessions, peer reviews, and milestone assessments of initiatives leveraging health data and computational models.
Required Qualifications:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree with completed residency training in a primary care specialty (e.g., Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics).
- Currently Holding or Able to obtain Public Trust Clearance.
- Board certification and active, unrestricted U.S. medical license.
- Minimum 5–10 years of experience in clinical practice, with direct patient care responsibilities.
- Proven experience in computational modeling, machine learning, or artificial intelligence in healthcare settings.
- Demonstrated experience in budgeting, program management, and technical oversight of R&D or healthcare innovation programs.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate complex medical and technical concepts to non-clinical stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work environment and travel onsite when required.
Desired additional qualifications:
- Experience advising or working within federal health research agencies (e.g., NIH, VA, DHA).
- Familiarity with digital health technologies, clinical decision support systems, and health IT infrastructure.
- Experience with interdisciplinary research or innovation teams focused on patient-centric healthcare solutions.
