Scientist I, Cellular Assay Development and Screening
About Us
Valo Health is a technology company that is integrating human-centric data and AI-powered technology to accelerate the creation of life-changing drugs for more patients faster. Valo was created with the belief that the drug discovery and development process can and should be faster and less expensive, with a much higher probability of success. We are using models early to fail less often, executing clinical trials to add valuation to the company, and generating fit-for-purpose data to feed back into Valo’s Opal Computational Platform™ as we reinvent drug discovery and development from the ground up. Disease doesn’t wait, so neither can we.
We are a multi-disciplinary team of experts in science, technology, and pharmaceuticals united in our mission to achieve better drugs for patients faster. Valo is committed to hiring diverse talent, prioritizing growth and development, fostering an inclusive environment, and creating opportunities to bring together a group of different experiences, backgrounds, and voices to work together. We achieve the widest-ranging impact when we leverage our broad backgrounds and perspectives to accelerate a new frontier in health. Valo seeks to become the catalyst for the pharmaceutical industry and drive the digital transformation of the industry. Are you ready to join us?
What You’ll Do…
- Work as part of a multi-functional in vitro pharmacology (IVP) team, interfacing with colleagues in medicinal & platform chemistry, DEL, data science, and biology.
- Develop cellular assays and manage cellular high throughput screens (HTS) to advance compounds through our pipeline, while ensuring timely data delivery to project teams.
- Proactively identify assays that would be useful to our small molecule programs and help bring in-house new screening methods or technologies.
- Interpret, summarize, and present research findings to internal project teams and at external scientific meetings/conferences.
- Keep detailed electronic records of your work and adhere to lab safety regulations/good laboratory practices.
What You Bring...
- A Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or related field and 0-2 years of experience, OR a Master’s degree in a related field and 6-8 years of experience, OR a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 10+ years of experience.
- Demonstrated expertise at all stages of an HTS campaign, from initial planning and piloting to execution and data analysis. Applicants must have a history of running cellular HTS campaigns to be considered.
- Proven track record of utilizing several plate-based technologies in your assay development and screening work, such as luminescence, BRET, HTRF, LANCE, ELISA/AlphaLISA, qRT-PCR, and/or high content imaging.
- A rigorous mindset when developing assays in 384-well format, with experience testing how different assay parameters may affect the window, Z-prime, run-to-run variability, etc.
- As part of assay development workflows, you will grow and maintain primary/immortalized cells and aid in the generation of assay-ready cell lines through RNA/DNA transfection or viral transduction. Experience with cardiomyocytes, adipose cells, organoids, CRISPR-Cas9 technologies, and/or iPSC differentiation is a plus.
- Expertise using and troubleshooting machines common in these workflows, such as an Echo dispenser, multidrop Combi, plate reader systems, qPCR thermocycler and/or Phenix confocal microscope. Knowledge of the HighRes screening platform is a plus.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey complex assay data to program team members of varying backgrounds.
- Good time management skills and the ability to balance experiments for multiple programs and stakeholders.
- Ability to troubleshoot, and to think critically/independently with excellent attention to detail.
