We build software to support these missions, including providing battlefield information to allies, identifying malign activity, and helping the US deter and deescalate conflict.

About The Role 

We’re seeking a dynamic Software Engineering Manager to lead the engineering team for our core product, Decrypt. In this role, you will build and manage a cross-functional team that allows users to find the right data from our holdings and create new ways to work with our data. 

What You’ll Do 

  • Team Building: Develop and lead a strong cross-functional team that allows users to find the right data from our holdings and create new ways to work with our data.  
  • Workflow Development: Design and build scalable, reliable, data-intensive new workflows that allow our customers to use our data more insightfully. Build workflow building blocks to serve as a foundation for other teams within the company. 
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance how the decrypt team works with horizontal and peer engineering teams to drive collaboration and higher engineering standards. 
  • Career Development: Mentor and develop the engineers on the decrypt team to achieve their high potential and become leaders within VL engineering  
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, mission success, and our customers, leveraging your communication skills to ensure effective teamwork. 

What we look for 

  • Proven experience in engineering leadership roles, either as a tech lead or engineering manager.
  • Strong technical expertise in developing both the frontend and backend for data-intensive applications. 
  • High ethical standards for handling sensitive data, ensuring adherence to data privacy rules and compliance standards.  
  • Willingness to travel up to 15%.  
  • Excellent communication skills, teamwork abilities, and project ownership.  
  • U.S. Citizenship (required to access U.S.-only data systems).  
  • Proficiency with software development in cloud services.  
  • Familiarity with Typescript, React, and Kubernetes-based deployment systems.
