Overview

Velir x Brooklyn Data is seeking an experienced SEO Contractor to provide up to 20 hours of support per week across a portfolio of client engagements. This role will have a strong emphasis on technical SEO, including site audits, crawlability and indexation analysis, technical issue identification, implementation guidance, and validation.

The ideal contractor can work independently, quickly assess complex websites, clearly document technical findings, and collaborate with SEO, analytics, content, and development teams to turn recommendations into measurable improvements.

This is a flexible contract role intended to supplement Velir's existing SEO capabilities and provide additional technical depth and execution support as client needs arise.

Responsibilities

Technical SEO

  • Lead and support technical SEO audits across client websites

  • Analyze crawlability, indexation, canonicalization, redirects, robots directives, XML sitemaps, pagination, duplicate content, and site architecture

  • Identify technical issues using tools such as Screaming Frog, Google Search Console, Ahrefs, and Semrush

  • Assess Core Web Vitals, page performance, rendering, JavaScript SEO, and mobile search considerations

  • Review structured data and provide schema implementation recommendations

  • Identify technical SEO risks associated with website redesigns, migrations, platform changes, and releases

  • Develop clear, prioritized recommendations based on SEO impact and implementation effort

  • Partner with developers and technical teams to troubleshoot issues and provide implementation guidance

  • Validate fixes following development releases and monitor for regressions

  • Support ongoing technical SEO monitoring and governance

On-Page & SEO Support

  • Conduct targeted on-page optimization when needed, including metadata, headings, internal linking, and content structure

  • Perform keyword and search intent research to support technical and content recommendations

  • Identify opportunities to improve information architecture and internal linking

  • Support content teams with SEO recommendations when technical and on-page considerations overlap

Analytics & Performance Measurement

  • Use Google Search Console and analytics platforms such as GA4 to investigate organic search performance

  • Analyze changes in rankings, impressions, clicks, traffic, and landing-page performance

  • Connect technical SEO findings to measurable organic search outcomes

  • Support SEO reporting, analysis, and prioritization

Tools & Platforms

  • Regularly work within tools such as:

    • Screaming Frog

    • Google Search Console

    • Ahrefs

    • Semrush

    • GA4

    • Google Tag Manager

    • PageSpeed Insights / Lighthouse

  • Build and configure custom crawls, extractions, segments, and technical QA workflows when needed

  • Document repeatable processes and contribute to scalable SEO delivery practices

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Velir's SEO, Behavioral Analytics, CRO, Content, Strategy, UX, and Development teams

  • Translate technical SEO findings into clear recommendations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Participate in client meetings when technical SEO expertise is needed

  • Support integrated initiatives involving SEO, AEO/GEO, analytics, experimentation, content, and digital experience optimization

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of hands-on SEO experience, with meaningful experience in technical SEO
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • Crawlability and indexation
    • Canonicalization and redirects
    • XML sitemaps and robots.txt
    • Site architecture and internal linking
    • Core Web Vitals and site performance
    • Structured data/schema
    • JavaScript SEO and rendering considerations
    • Website migrations and redesigns
  • Advanced experience with Screaming Frog
  • Strong experience with Google Search Console
  • Experience with SEO platforms such as Ahrefs and/or Semrush
  • Working knowledge of GA4 and web analytics
  • Ability to independently investigate technical issues and determine likely root causes
  • Ability to clearly document findings, recommendations, priorities, and implementation requirements
  • Comfortable working across multiple clients and shifting priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice to Have

  • Agency or consulting experience
  • Experience with enterprise or complex multi-domain websites
  • Experience supporting website migrations and major platform releases
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms such as Optimizely CMS, Sitecore, Drupal, and WordPress
  • Familiarity with headless architectures, SPAs, and JavaScript frameworks
  • Experience with log-file analysis
  • Experience using BigQuery or other data tools for SEO analysis
  • Understanding of accessibility and its relationship to technical site quality
  • Exposure to CRO, experimentation, or behavioral analytics
  • Experience with AEO, GEO, AI search visibility, and emerging search behavior

  • Frequent sitting at a desk performing work on a computer

Compensation Range: $75/hour
