 We are seeking a Network Engineer to join our Network Engineering team. The team is responsible for the networks that support critical internet infrastructure. The nature of the work will span greenfield deployments and legacy enhancements and improvements.

Key Team Responsibilities:

  • Critical bridge between current deployment and future implementation
  • Responsible for driving deployed technology
  • Formalize code testing and deployment
  • Network QA and solution validation and testing
  • RCA reproduction and remediation
  • Bridge between NetOps and Network Architecture

Key Individual Responsibilities:

  • Liaison between network architecture and operations.  Be able to take high level network architectural artifacts and create a production ready solution to be delivered to operations for deployment and maintenance
  • Network testing and quality assurance - candidates should be proficient in lab testing and documenting new vendor code and new architectures for feature gaps, bugs and compliance
  • Network troubleshooting and fault isolation - candidates must have a deep understanding of network control plane, so that (s)he can reproduce abnormalities in a lab environment for root cause analysis and remediation
  • Research and integrate industry best practices in network orchestration and configuration management
  • Actively help identify gaps that are pain points for up/down stream organizations and take a leadership role in executing a solution
  • Help design and implement auto remediation functions to monitor, manage and recover from undesirable network events

Requirements:

  • Hands on experience with network devices (routers, switches, load balancers, firewalls, etc)
  • Understanding of infrastructure protocols (BGP, OSPF, VXLAN, VRRP, DHCP, TCP, UDP), IP addressing (IPv6), and application protocols (DNS, SMTP, HTTP, etc.)
  • Understanding of cloud technologies (AWS, Kubernetes, Openstack, Micro-segmentation, etc.)
  • Proficient in Python, Ansible, Shell scripting
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Exceptional documentation skills, acting as a vendor liaison, making presentations to internal customers or client audiences, to professional peers, and working closely with leadership
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience
  • 12+ years’ related experience 

Able to:

  • Troubleshoot and isolate network related issues in a timely manner
  • Quickly adapt to and learn new technologies, both development framework and technology advancements
  • Have a high aptitude and technology-agnostic approach to engineering

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in deploying and operating public and/or private cloud infrastructures
  • Solid understanding of the Linux operating systems and Docker containers
  • Experience with design and full stack development of network monitoring/management applications
  • Proven contributions to the opensource community. Please provide your github/bitbuket repository of projects
  • Experience with time-series database (eg Influxdb, Prometheus, etc)

This position is based in our Reston, VA office and offers a flexible, hybrid work schedule

The pay range is $149,300 - $201,900. 

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is noted above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience. Verisign offers a discretionary bonus which is based on individual and company performance, and certain roles may be eligible for discretionary stock awards.
