About the Job: Pharmacy technicians are responsible for the management of medication distribution, overseeing the pharmacy log, answering incoming phone calls from outside pharmacies and clients, and providing drug information and education to the clients. The primary responsibilities of the Pharmacy Technician are to assist the medical teams with serving customers and maintaining the Pharmacy department. The incumbent is required to perform all tasks in a safe manner, consistent with federal & state pharmaceutical laws.

How you'll make a difference

  • Follow hospital’s general policies and protocols.
  • Prepare and fill medications for both outpatients and hospitalized patients where permitted by state law.
  • Perform computer entry of prescription information including but not limited to: patient search, prescriber search, drug selection, prescription interpretation & entry, insurance billing and basic problem resolution.
  • Retrieve the appropriate medication from inventory where permitted by state law.
  • Create prescription labels and put them on prescription containers where permitted by state law.
  • Assist with maintaining the Pharmacy department by keeping it clean and in order.
  • Assist with drug inventory control and management, following all state and federal laws regulating drugs by class and handling protocols.
  • Follow appropriate hospital protocol for filling controlled substances.
  • Explain medications with the owners to assure they understand the doctor’s instructions using excellent customer service skills.
  • Check prescription refill line, keeping daily log of requests and filling prescriptions daily.
  • Pharmacy technicians should be skilled in answering the phone and have basic knowledge of computer and fax functions.
  • Manage the pharmacy log and ensure that refill requests are handled in a timely manner.

What you will bring

  • Current or recent experience working within the veterinary industry and experience with prescription medications preferred; open to consider those from human medicine in pharmacy technician positions
  • Will be expected to learn basic medical terminology
  • Must be efficient, friendly, courteous, and helpful to all clients and coworkers, in all situations
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must be able to prioritize and multi-task to optimize efficiency
  • Must be proficient with computers in order to enter appropriate charges in EzyVet
  • Will maintain a clean and professional appearance at all times
  • Must understand and support the Hospital’s mission and overall direction.

Schedule: Full-Time position, schedule will be Monday-Thursday 9:00am-7:30pm

Salary: $18.00 - $22.00 / hour based on experience

Base Pay

$18 - $22 USD
