About the Role
As a Hardware Sustaining Engineer, you will be the bridge between initial product launch and end-of-life, ensuring Verkada’s hardware remains reliable, manufacturable, and cost-effective at scale. You will thrive at the intersection of Hardware Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain, driving the execution of engineering changes, component qualifications, worldwide certifications and field failure resolutions across our Alarm product line. This is a full-time, in-person role based in our San Mateo, CA office.
What You’ll Do
- Lead end to end execution of hardware sustaining projects related to second-sourcing, quality, ongoing reliability, certifications and more.
- Spearhead product compliance programs across the globe; work hand-in-hand with our certification team, JDM compliance personnel & various 3rd party labs.
- Own Early Field Failure & RMA investigations; report on EFFA/RMA status to Hardware leadership.
- Debug field failures in collaboration with electrical and mechanical engineers. Develop, test and validate engineering solutions.
- Manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) with Supply Chain & JDM counterparts; track schedules for ECOs and ensure all validation and certification deliverables are met.
- Audit and evaluate JDM production quality; work with JDM partners to drive continuous improvement.
- Communicate and visit with customers to understand deployment issues & potential corrective actions.
What You Bring
- Educational Foundation: B.S. in Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience: 2+ years of experience in hardware development and manufacturing, with exposure to program management and certifications.
- Ability to translate complex failure analysis into actionable project plans, identifying critical path risks and driving cross-functional teams toward resolution.
- Flexible and adaptive in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Presence: Must be willing and able to work onsite five days per week in San Mateo with up to 20% international travel.

Annual Pay Range
At Verkada, we want to attract and retain the best employees, and compensate them in a way that appropriately and fairly values their individual contribution to the company. With that in mind, we carefully consider a number of factors to determine the appropriate starting pay for an employee, including their primary work location and an assessment of a candidate's skills and experience, as well as market demands and internal parity. A Verkada employee may be eligible for additional forms of compensation, depending on their role, including sales incentives, discretionary bonuses, and/or equity in the company in the form of restricted stock units (RSUs)
Below is the annual on-target earnings (OTE) range for full-time employees for this position, comprised of base compensation and commissions (if applicable).

$95,000 - $160,000 USD
