Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Manager of Software Development to lead and grow a high-performing engineering team while driving the successful delivery of enterprise software solutions. This role blends people leadership, hands-on technical guidance, and delivery accountability. You will partner closely with Product, Engineering, and the Regional R&D Director to align roadmaps, improve processes, and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and at a high level of quality. You’ll serve as a key escalation point for team challenges and play a critical role in fostering a collaborative, results-driven engineering culture.

This role will be involved in the software development process as well as management activities.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Partner with Product and Engineering to create aligned roadmaps and backlogs; understand and manage input, throughput, and capacity.
  • Execute with the team to deliver committed projects on time, within budget, and with quality.
  • Manage and respond effectively to changes, disruptions, and competing priorities.
  • Partner with other managers and teams while adhering to best practices, processes, and audit constraints.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with stakeholders and teams regarding status, risks, issues, and dependencies.
  • Coach and develop team members; identify talent and resource gaps and drive plans to close them.
  • Identify and introduce new technologies that improve solutions and delivery effectiveness.
  • Guide team development efforts toward successful project delivery.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership through the delivery of high-quality solutions to complex technical problems.
  • Maintain high software quality standards by establishing strong engineering practices and habits.
  • Assist in gathering and documenting user requirements, developing user stories, estimates, and work plans.
  • Participate in peer reviews of solution designs and code.
  • Provide guidance for resolving technical and application issues.
  • Assess opportunities for application and process improvement and document recommendations for leadership and stakeholders.
  • Adhere to high-quality development principles while delivering solutions on time and on budget.
  • Analyze system specifications and translate requirements into task specifications for less experienced engineers.
  • Participate in Agile estimation, planning, daily ceremonies, and retrospectives to drive continuous improvement.
  • Deliver maximum value to customers by ensuring teams have the resources they need, communicate effectively, and are shielded from distractions.
  • Keep time goals clear and visible to teams.
  • Facilitate daily stand-ups, planning sessions, showcases, and retrospectives.
  • Coach teams to success by inspiring clear project vision and strong collaboration.
  • Ensure time tracking and reporting are completed accurately and on time (weekly).
  • Participate in performance and salary review sessions.
  • Manage and resolve conflicts within the team, escalating when appropriate.
  • Conduct regular 1:1 meetings to support development and enable bi-directional feedback.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Business, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience delivering commercial enterprise software solutions.
  • 3+ years of hands-on cloud technology experience (Azure preferred; AWS acceptable).
  • Strong knowledge of cloud security, cybersecurity best practices, compliance, data privacy, and security protocols.
  • Full understanding of all phases of application development and Agile methodologies.
  • Deep technical expertise in core technologies such as C#, .NET, Java, and Python.
  • Proven experience delivering solutions across back-office systems, artificial intelligence, IoT, security, and integrations.
  • Strong planning, resource management, and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage both software engineers and all levels of management.
  • Ability to establish credibility as a trusted advisor on organizational standards and best practices.
  • Confidence to say “no” when necessary and articulate thoughtful rationale.
  • Strong ability to synthesize information, experience, and inputs to determine best courses of action.
  • Experience optimizing and integrating large-scale systems to improve quality and service
  • Ability to hold teams accountable for meeting customer needs.
  • Commitment to seeking and incorporating perspectives from impacted stakeholders.
  • Strong collaboration skills with both technical and business stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness and ability to coach and mentor less experienced engineering staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve efficiency and effectiveness of products and services.
  • Track record of improving deliverable quality for internal and external clients.
  • Consistent delivery of projects on time and within budget.
  • Successful completion of the Nlets fingerprinting background assessment.
  • Must be locally located and comfortable working a hybrid model out of the Manhattan, New York office (3 days in office, 2 days remote).
