In this role, you will lead a team responsible for developing and scaling Verve’s core ad exchange and ad server functionality. This is a high-impact role for someone who enjoys both people leadership and deep technical involvement. You are not only a manager. You are a technical leader who can understand complex systems, support engineers in their growth, contribute to architecture decisions, review code, unblock teams, and stay close to production systems
What You Will Do
People & Team Leadership
- Mentor, grow, and develop your direct reports, helping them chart their career paths.
- Lead agile team operations to ensure consistent, high-quality, and on-time software deliveries.
- Drive team growth by actively participating in hiring, interviewing, and performance reviews.
- Contribute to department-wide engineering initiatives, optimizing processes for both developer experience and business outcomes.
Technical Execution
- Maintain a deep, in-and-out understanding of our systems and architecture.
- Create new product increments, oversee deployments, and proactively monitor system health.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues alongside your team.
- Leverage and champion modern development practices, including agentic-assisted coding workflows.
What You Will Bring
- 7+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with system-level languages. (We are generally language-agnostic, but most of our stack is Java and Go).
- 3+ years of direct experience managing, leading, and growing a team of engineers.
- Cloud Infrastructure: Proven experience working with Cloud Computing platforms (GCP, AWS).
- Modern DevOps: Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD) and containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- AI-Assisted Dev: Solid understanding and practical knowledge of agentic-assisted development tools (e.g., Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, or similar).
- Observability & IaC: Working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform) and monitoring/alerting systems (Grafana, ELK).
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related scientific field.
