About Verve Coffee

Verve Coffee Roasters is an award-winning craft coffee company (2024 Roaster of the Year) and a growth-stage omnichannel business. We serve customers through retail cafes in California and Japan, direct-to-consumer e-commerce, and wholesale partnerships with leading tech companies (Meta, Nvidia, Capital One) and major retailers (REI, Whole Foods and Sprouts).

The Role

We are seeking a financially-fluent architect to serve as the engine of our financial planning and business analysis. This is not a "reporting" role; it is a Unit Economics powerhouse. You will own the Doss ERP system, architecting the data schemas that track every cent of contribution margin across our three distinct channels.

As a key driver of Verve’s Operational Excellence initiative, you will be responsible for identifying variance, optimizing COGS, and building the rigorous financial models that dictate our capital allocation while sponsoring our data culture. You will lead the Business Decision Support function at Verve and partner with the CFO to ensure growth is always balanced with disciplined profitability (drive trade-off decision-making).

What You'll Do

Financial Infrastructure & ERP Architecture

  • Serve as the Strategic Owner of the Doss ERP, ensuring the general ledger and sub-ledgers translate into clean, actionable financial data.

  • Architect data pipelines that map POS and e-commerce transactions directly to P&L line items for real-time margin visibility.

  • Implement rigorous data governance to ensure a "single source of truth" for all financial auditing and reporting.

Advanced Margin & Unit Economic Analysis

  • Perform granular P&L attribution by channel, SKU, and customer cohort.

  • Develop complex Contribution Margin 2 & 3 models that account for channel-specific "hidden" costs: cafe labor/occupancy, DTC last-mile fulfillment, and wholesale trade spend/deductions.

  • Build sensitivity and scenario models to stress-test pricing strategies, product mix shifts, and capital investment ROI.

  • Execute SKU Rationalization studies and labor productivity audits to drive bottom-line expansion.

Financial Planning & Strategic Dashboards

  • Design executive-grade financial dashboards that move beyond vanity metrics to focus on EBITDA drivers and liquidity.

  • Establish a KPI framework based on First Principles, tracking leading indicators like Cafe Same-Store Sales (SSS), DTC Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) vs. LTV, and Wholesale Velocity.

  • Bridge the gap between operational data and financial outcomes through high-fidelity visualizations.

Demand Modeling & Inventory Finance

  • Build probabilistic forecasting models to optimize working capital and minimize inventory carry costs (including green coffee and RTD).

  • Partner with Production to align roasting schedules with financial demand signals, reducing "waste" as a percentage of COGS.

  • Monitor Forecast Variance (BIAS/MAPE) and its direct impact on cash flow.

Strategic Business Partnership

  • Co-lead Monthly Business Reviews (MBR) with the CFO, providing the "why" behind budget vs. actual (BVA) variances.

  • Act as a financial consultant to Channel Leaders, providing the data to justify marketing spend or wholesale expansion.

  • Support Store Selection (Real Estate) modeling through predictive site-performance analytics.

What You Bring

Required:

  • 7-10+ years in financial analysis, FP&A, or business intelligence

  • Strong financial acumen: P&Ls, margin structures, and speaks the language of finance

  • Strong data acumen: deep analysis and modeling of complex and disparate data sets

  • Multi-channel or omnichannel businesses analysis with different unit economics

  • ERP experience (NetSuite, SAP, Dynamics, etc.)

  • Dashboard/BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker)

  • Excel expert with modeling and forecasting skills

  • Statistical forecasting experience

  • Track record driving measurable business results through finance and data analysis

  • Entrepreneurial mindset; comfortable with ambiguity, building from scratch, desiring ownership.

Preferred:

  • CPG, food & beverage, retail, or restaurant experience

  • Omnichannel (B2B + B2C + retail) background

  • Retail unit economics or DTC analytics experience

  • Wholesale/distribution/grocery channel economics and cost structures experience

  • Operational transformation experience

  • Growth company background

Who Thrives Here

You get excited about messy data problems and don't wait to be told what to analyze. You toggle between inch-wide, mile-deep splunking, and presenting to the CEO. You think like an owner, want impact over title, and are energized by building systems from scratch. You're comfortable challenging assumptions with data and have a bias toward action and operational improvement.

What You'll Get

Direct impact on operational transformation at a growth-stage business. Autonomy to build analytics infrastructure from the ground up. Access to leadership and strategic decisions. Competitive comp (________ base + benefits + bonus) with clear growth path to ______ as we scale.
