General Counsel
About Voio
Voio is a standard-of-care company, building AI to elevate the practice of medicine across whole clinical specialties and disease systems. Starting with radiology, we are building comprehensive AI models that can read every imaging modality and produce radiology reports better than the standard of care today. The same AI powers a suite of prognostic tools that predict future disease and treatment outcomes, enabling a new generation of AI-based clinical guidelines. Voio also leads the definitive clinical trials that prove each leap in what's possible for patients.
Our work began at UC Berkeley and UCSF, where the early foundation models, prognostic models and clinical trials were first launched. Today we build the full stack in-house, from large-scale vision models and evaluation systems to the product radiologists rely on every day.
The Role
The General Counsel leads the legal function at Voio, working directly with the VP of Strategy & Operations and leadership team across healthcare regulation, commercial agreements, privacy and data, corporate matters, employment, intellectual property and regulatory strategy.
This is a hands-on role for an attorney with deep healthcare experience who understands how to operate inside an early-stage technology company. You will advise leadership on complex legal and regulatory questions while personally driving the work required to resolve them — negotiating agreements, structuring partnerships, reviewing data arrangements, supporting financings and corporate matters, and building the legal infrastructure required as Voio scales.
The General Counsel is expected to understand the business objective, identify the risks that actually matter and create a practical path forward. You will own matters internally, determine when specialized outside counsel is necessary, and translate legal complexity into clear decisions and executable next steps.
Responsibilities
- Lead Voio's legal strategy across healthcare regulation, commercial agreements, privacy, data, corporate governance, employment and intellectual property
- Advise leadership, product, research and clinical teams on healthcare AI, clinical workflows, medical data, product claims, regulatory requirements and emerging AI regulation
- Draft and negotiate enterprise agreements, BAAs, data use and licensing agreements, strategic partnerships, research collaborations, vendor agreements and other commercial contracts
- Own legal strategy around healthcare data, including HIPAA, privacy, data governance, data rights and the use of clinical and research datasets
- Partner with clinical and research leadership on the legal and regulatory strategy supporting clinical validation, FDA submissions and commercialization
- Manage corporate legal matters including financings, board and stockholder matters, equity, subsidiaries, insurance and investor diligence
- Advise Operations and leadership on employment agreements, compensation, equity, policies, employee relations and other employment matters
- Develop and protect Voio's intellectual property across software, machine learning, research, data, inventions and commercial partnerships
- Build Voio's legal infrastructure, including contract templates, negotiation playbooks, approval processes, document management and obligation tracking
- Select and manage specialized outside counsel while maintaining internal ownership of legal matters
Why This Role Matters
Voio is building AI that will operate inside one of the most regulated and consequential industries in the world. Our ability to move quickly depends on understanding where legal and regulatory risk is real, where it is manageable and what we need to do about it.
The General Counsel gives Voio the legal judgment and infrastructure to move quickly without being careless about the risks that matter.
