Systems Administrator

Sydney, Australia

About us

Vow is a cultured meat company on a mission to feed billions and create food that’s good for your tastebuds, your health and your planet.

We’re bringing together cutting edge innovations in science, engineering, culinary and design to create new meats that meat lovers can choose selfishly because it’s nutritious and delicious, and we’re doing so in a sustainable way.

The role:

We’re seeking a part-time (3 days/week) Systems Administrator with a focus on Mac and Linux systems (Windows as needed). You’ll oversee escalations from our AI-powered L1 support agent, manage the SaaS application stack, maintain mobile device management (MDM), and ensure cloud security and compliance. Your work will free you up to handle higher-level system administration tasks—such as patching, networking, and optimizing IT infrastructure—while collaborating with cross-functional teams to keep our fast-paced environment running smoothly. We’re looking for someone who loves tackling challenges, thrives on autonomy, and holds themselves to a high performance standard.

The experience/skills you will bring:

  • Education: Diploma or Bachelors Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Professional Background:
    • 2 years in system administration, with a strong preference for expertise in Mac and Linux systems. Familiarity with Windows is acceptable.
    • Experience in configuring, troubleshooting, maintaining, and securing IT systems in a production environment is a must.
  • Technical Skills:
    • SaaS application administration and MDM solutions (e.g., Jumpcloud, Jamf, Intune, Kandji).
    • Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN) and general hardware troubleshooting.
    • Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including basic security and compliance.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong communication and problem-solving capabilities.
    • Organized, proactive, and comfortable juggling multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

You will:

  •  System Maintenance & Administration.
    • Administer and maintain Mac and Linux endpoints (supporting Windows as needed) using MDM and related tools to enforce security and compliance across devices.
    • Perform routine updates, patches, backups and monitoring to ensure reliability and security of servers, networks, and endpoints.
  • SaaS & Cloud Management.
    • Oversee SaaS applications: user access, integrations, and security configurations.
    • Evaluate and deploy new SaaS tools in alignment with business needs.
  • Support & Service Optimisation.
    • Address technical issues escalated from the AI L1 agent, resolving them promptly.
    • Update and refine AI workflows and knowledge bases to reduce repetitive escalations, as well as using support trends to recommend AI, system or process enhancements.
  • Security & Compliance.
    • Implement security controls across Mac, Linux, and cloud environments (e.g., firewalls, identity and access management).
    • Conduct regular audits to maintain compliance and respond to security incidents with root cause analysis and prevention strategies.
  • Documentation & Reporting
    • Maintain clear documentation of configurations, SaaS settings, MDM policies, and automated IT processes.
    • Report on system performance, security metrics, and escalations, offering actionable insights to leadership.

What success looks like:

  • In the first 3 months, you’ll onboard and tackle a moderate volume of escalations with agility, quickly getting up to speed with our dynamic infrastructure. You’ll begin driving projects that reduce recurring issues—particularly those escalated from L1—while enhancing system security, reliability and efficiency. Expect to refine our AI support workflows, laying the groundwork for broader process optimizations.
  • By the 6-month mark, you’ll have significantly decreased system downtime and resolved persistent problems, showcasing your ability to design and implement impactful service improvements. You’ll take charge of at least one significant IT project, aligning it seamlessly with our strategic objectives. Your efforts will improve operations and customer experience while setting higher standards for excellence within the team.
  • Within your first year, you’ll be a cornerstone of our IT operations, known for driving initiatives that ensure robust security, high system availability, and optimized SaaS management. Your proactive approach will have introduced advanced IT solutions, marking major milestones in our projects and driving consistent improvements. Your work will be critical in helping us stay ahead of the curve and maintain our competitive edge in a rapidly evolving industry.

  • Heaps of tasty samples from our culinary centre. Our fantastic "food inventors" on the Vow team are always cooking up new product prototypes, and all Vowzers are given the opportunity to taste, give feedback, and learn from their culinary prowess.
  • An awesome converted warehouse “campus” in Alexandria. Complete with a glass-walled lab, 2 factories, shower and towel service, bike rack, free snacks, a culinary centre and plenty of collaboration and chill zones.
  • Human and dog friendly office! An inclusive community and culture, in a welcoming office, complete with friendly “Vowzer” dogs!
  • A variety of social clubs. We encourage all our Vowzers to build the culture with us and share what you love by creating social clubs across the business. From book clubs to hiking groups, we’re always looking for ways to learn and engage with our team.
