The Opportunity

We are seeking a Group General Counsel to lead the legal function across MTP’s North American operations and serve as the primary legal advisor to executive leadership and boards across the companies in the United States and Canada.

This is a senior, highly visible, fully remote role suited to a pragmatic, business‑minded legal leader who thrives in fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environments. The Group General Counsel will play a critical role in enabling growth, supporting innovation, structuring complex commercial relationships, and managing risk across a diverse, technology‑driven marketing services ecosystem.

Role Overview

The Group General Counsel oversees all legal matters across the MTP organization, including commercial contracting, corporate governance, employment, litigation management, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, data protection, and risk management. The role spans multiple business models including advertising, media, analytics, retail execution, and retail telecommunications operations.

Operating within a lean legal model, this role balances hands‑on execution with strategic leadership and partners closely with agency presidents, executive leadership, HR, Finance, IT, and operations across a distributed organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary legal advisor to MTP executive leadership and agency management across the U.S. and Canada
  • Manage legal support across a high volume of concurrent matters spanning multiple agencies and business models
  • Lead and manage all commercial contracting activities across the platform (e.g. MSAs, SOWs, media insertion orders, licensing and intellectual property agreements, SAAS agreements, influencer and talent agreements, sponsorship agreements)
  • Support business teams and compliance for executing client engagements (e.g., IP clearances and licensing, marketing content compliance)
  • Oversee employment‑related legal matters in collaboration with HR
  • Oversee commercial insurance program and requirements
  • Manage litigation, disputes, and claims, including coordination with external counsel
  • Advise on corporate governance and compliance obligations
  • Provide guidance on intellectual property strategy and risk
  • Lead data privacy, cybersecurity, and regulatory compliance initiatives, including advising on technology, data use, and AI-related risks in client contracts, RFPs, etc.
  • Support M&A, investments, and other strategic initiatives
  • Develop pragmatic legal frameworks, templates, and playbooks
  • Manage relationships with external counsel and legal service providers

Qualifications & Experience

  • 10–15+ years of legal experience, including substantial in‑house experience; prior GC or Assistant GC experience preferred
  • Strong transactional background with deep experience in commercial contracting
  • Demonstrated experience managing litigation and dispute resolution
  • Background in advertising, media, marketing technology, or related industries strongly preferred
  • Experience advising multi‑entity organizations or agency networks
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (Canadian familiarity a plus)

Key Capabilities

  • Exceptional commercial negotiation and drafting skills
  • Working knowledge of technology contracts, cybersecurity expectations, and data‑use considerations
  • Familiarity with AI tools and emerging legal risks associated with generative AI and technology platforms
  • Ability to manage a high volume of matters across multiple business units
  • Strong business judgment with a practical, solutions‑oriented legal approach
  • Comfort operating in a lean, fast‑moving environment supporting entrepreneurial companies
  • Flexible U.S. location with periodic travel to offices across the U.S. and Canada
