Position Overview
The Pharmacist is responsible for the accurate preparation, verification, and dispensation of drug therapies, including chemotherapy and IV therapies. This role provides clinical drug information, manages inventory, supervises pharmacy technicians, and ensures compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The Pharmacist works closely with nurses, physicians, and research teams to support optimal patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Enter drug orders into pharmacy computer systems
- Confirm appropriate dosing and therapy selections
- Verify the accuracy of chemotherapy and IV therapies prepared by technicians
- Prepare chemotherapy and IV drugs as needed
- Maintain required logs and documentation, including narcotic inventory
- Monitor and manage drug inventory, including ordering and restocking
- Provide clinical drug information to healthcare teams regarding dosing, interactions, and stability
- Support research protocols by providing and verifying research drugs, maintaining logs, and confirming compliance
- Ship medications and research drugs to satellite locations
- Supervise pharmacy technicians in preparation of chemotherapy and IV products
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and external partners regarding drug availability and clinical information
- Engage with pharmaceutical wholesalers and research sponsors for contract compliance and drug supply
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and adherence to clinic safety policies
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree and 1–2 years of related experience, or 5–7 years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- DPh or PharmD required
- Must be licensed by the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent organizational, communication, and follow-up skills
- Strong problem-solving and prioritization abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in computer applications, including word processing and email
- Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams
- Experience handling toxic or caustic chemicals and understanding of applicable safety standards
