Veterinary Technician Supervisor

Wilmington, Delaware, United States

Are you a skilled, experienced veterinary technician who's ready to step into a leadership role — in an urgent care setting where no two shifts look the same and your clinical instincts actually matter?

First State Urgent Vet – Wilmington is seeking a Veterinary Technician Supervisor to join our team and help lead a fast-paced, mission-driven urgent care practice where technicians and assistants are empowered to use their full range of skills.

Our urgent care setting blends the best of general practice and emergency medicine — you'll triage patients, provide life-saving treatments, and still get to celebrate a perfectly healthy puppy coming in for vaccines. We're a team that takes the medicine seriously and doesn't take ourselves too seriously. Thick skin and a quick wit are genuinely appreciated here. It's how we cope, and it's part of what makes us a team worth joining.

This is a hands-on leadership position — not a desk job. You'll be right there on the floor mentoring your team, triaging patients, and collaborating closely with the hospital owners, practice manager, and our Wilmington location's tech supervisor counterpart. If you're someone who thrives in controlled chaos, communicates clearly under pressure, and leads by doing — we'd love to meet you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support, train, and mentor veterinary technicians and assistants to perform at their best
  • Oversee scheduling, workflow, and daily communication to keep operations running smoothly
  • Triage emergencies and perform advanced technical procedures with confidence and calm
  • Collaborate with doctors and management to achieve clinic goals and maintain high standards
  • Promote teamwork, efficiency, and positive morale across all levels of the team

Schedule and compensation:

  • Compensation: $26 - $30 per hour, for each hour worked
  • Schedule: This is a full-time position, with a 4 x 10 schedule. Rotating weekend availability is required — every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday).

Full-time Benefits Package*:

  • Bonus package: $2000 based on active, good-standing veterinary technician credentials in the state of Delaware
  • CE allowance: $500-$1,000 based on tenure and credentials
  • Health package: Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Life insurance and disability
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • 401k with company match
  • Paid time off in accordance with site policy and applicable law
  • Personal pet discount
  • Uniform allowance

*Part-time team members may be eligible for limited benefits in accordance with company policy and state law

Minimum qualifications and skill set:

  • 3+ years of veterinary technician experience
  • Strong clinical foundation across both outpatient and urgent/emergency procedures
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop a team of technicians and assistants
  • Clear, professional communication with team members, doctors, and clients — including in high-stress and emotionally sensitive situations
  • Calm, efficient, and organized during medical emergencies
  • Strong work ethic, adaptability, and the ability to find some humor in the chaos while staying compassionate and grounded
  • Scheduling, workflow coordination, and team communication
  • Mentorship and on-the-job training of support staff
  • Effective teamwork and professional communication at all levels
  • Proficiency in the following clinical skills is also required:
    • Patient triage and assessment
    • Anesthetic induction, monitoring, and recovery
    • Venipuncture and IV catheter placement
    • Medication administration and accurate drug calculations
    • Radiology positioning and safety protocols
