Position Summary: The Internal Auditor will oversee the firm's internal control processes, risk management systems, and compliance with applicable policies, laws, and regulations. This role is critical in ensuring transparency, accountability, and operational integrity. The Internal Auditor operates independently and reports directly to the Founder, CEO, and General Counsel, maintaining strict confidentiality and discretion.
Key Responsibilities:
• Audit and Compliance
- Conduct regular internal audits of financial, operational, and administrative processes.
- Review adherence to ethical rules, legal compliance obligations, and state bar regulations.
- Monitor trust accounting practices and client fund management (IOLTA).
• Internal Controls
- Assess the effectiveness of the firm’s internal controls and risk mitigation systems.
- Recommend enhancements to ensure compliance with applicable legal and financial standards.
• Operational Review
- Analyze business workflows including case management, billing, and client intake procedures.
- Evaluate vendor and consultant contracts for proper approval, execution, and performance.
• Reporting and Communication
- Prepare confidential audit reports and findings exclusively for the Founder, CEO, and GC.
- Advise leadership on identified risks, policy gaps, and corrective actions.
- Ensure findings and recommendations are documented, traceable, and follow-up is monitored.
• Risk and Fraud Detection
- Investigate potential fraud, misuse of resources, or conflicts of interest.
- Serve as an independent checkpoint for integrity risks within the firm.
• Confidentiality & Independence
- This position maintains complete independence from legal and administrative staff operations and functions under the direct authority of the Founder, CEO, and General Counsel. All audit activity and communications are strictly confidential and privileged.
Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required
- CPA, CIA, or CFE certification preferred
- Minimum 5 years of auditing experience, preferably in legal, healthcare, or professional services industries
- Strong knowledge of legal accounting standards, including trust/IOLTA compliance
- High ethical standards, sound judgment, and strong analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex findings to executive leadership
- Proven ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
- Preferred Attributes:
- Familiarity with legal practice management software (e.g., Clio, Needles, Filevine)
- Experience auditing in a law firm or professional services setting
- Ability to navigate sensitive interpersonal and professional dynamics discreetly
Physical Requirements:
- Office environment with normal business hours necessary to satisfactorily perform job functions.
- Stationary Position – Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 50% of the time.
- Move or Traverse – This position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, meeting rooms, office machinery, etc. May occasionally ascends/descends the stairs to get to other floors, cafeteria and parking area.
- Dexterity – constantly operates a computer and other office machinery such as a copy machine/printer.
- Move, Transport, Position, Put, Install, Remove - Occasionally moves supplies weighing up to 10 pounds for various presentation and event needs.
- Communicate, Detect, Converse with, Discern, Convey, Express oneself, Exchange information - The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Detect, Determine, Perceive, Identify, Recognize, Judge, Observe, Inspect, Estimate, Assess - The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
