Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Construction Project Manager to lead the construction of xAI’s office buildings and support with datacenter projects. This role involves managing all aspects of the construction process, from planning and budgeting to execution and completion, in collaboration with the Corporate Project Architect, Corporate Interior Designer, and external contractors. The Construction Project Manager will ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to high-quality standards while adhering to building regulations and xAI’s mission-driven goals. This position requires strong project management skills, construction expertise, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee all phases of the construction process for xAI’s corporate buildings, including planning, permitting, construction, and closeout
- Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and resource plans, ensuring alignment with xAI’s timelines and financial goals
- Coordinate with the Corporate Project Architect and Corporate Interior Designer to ensure construction aligns with architectural and interior design specifications
- Manage relationships with contractors, subcontractors, and vendors, negotiating contracts and ensuring compliance with project requirements
- Ensure adherence to building codes, zoning laws, safety regulations, and environmental standards (e.g., LEED certification goals)
- Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, quality, and safety, addressing issues promptly to maintain project milestones
- Collaborate with xAI’s facilities team to integrate operational needs, such as technology infrastructure and employee workspace requirements
- Prepare and present project updates, budgets, and risk assessments to xAI leadership and stakeholders
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including contracts, permits, change orders, and financial reports
- Mitigate risks by proactively identifying and resolving construction challenges, such as delays or cost overruns
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in construction project management, preferably for commercial or corporate building projects
- Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Procore, Microsoft Project, or equivalent)
- Knowledge of local building codes, permitting processes, and construction safety standards
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s degree in Construction Management or a related field
- 7+ years of experience, including 2+ years managing corporate or commercial construction projects in California
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent
- Experience with sustainable construction practices (e.g., LEED, WELL Building Standard)
- Familiarity with corporate office construction in high-tech or innovation-driven environments
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
- Excellent communication and leadership skills for coordinating diverse teams in a flat organizational structure
- Proficiency with construction management software and budgeting tools
- Understanding of integrating building systems (e.g., HVAC, electrical) with construction processes
- Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay Range: $160,000 - $225,000
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at xAI.
