About the Role
The xAI team is seeking a dynamic Civil Engineer to join our team and support the operation, design, and optimization of our data center's physical infrastructure. This role is pivotal in ensuring the structural integrity, compliance, and efficiency of our facilities. The Civil Engineer will be integral in supporting the lifecycle of the data center's civil aspects from initial planning through to expansion projects. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Civil Engineer to contribute to our infrastructure projects at our Memphis data center. This role will support the design, development, and implementation of civil engineering projects to support our state-of-the-art facilities. The ideal candidate will bring a solid understanding of civil engineering principles, particularly as they relate to large-scale commercial or industrial projects.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate on a broad spectrum of planning, construction, and renovation projects for our current infrastructure.
- Support structural designs by assisting in the development and optimization of plans for site build out.
- Uphold design and safety standards by applying knowledge during project evaluations and on-site assessments.
- Contribute to refining design concepts, product offerings, sustainability practices, and standard templates to continuously improve upcoming projects.
- Assist in managing design proposals by supporting the creation, evaluation, and issuance of requests for proposals on structural designs.
- Contribute to efforts to increase project quality, timelines, uniformity, or optimize/cut costs for both current and planned developments.
- Stay informed about national, regional, and local laws, assisting in predicting future regulatory changes and supporting project management with compliance matters.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve common objectives like timely delivery, high-quality work, and increasing team morale.
- Support senior structural engineers through project audits, design phases, and implementation, ensuring alignment with internal teams.
- Ensure operational continuity by adhering to and supporting the enforcement of project guidelines and operational protocols.
- Assist in handling construction and enhancement projects concurrently, ensuring safety and service continuity.
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in civil engineering, with exposure to large-scale commercial or industrial projects.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar software.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under supervision and contribute to project management efforts.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- B.S. in Civil Engineering; Master’s degree is a plus.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is preferred.
- Methodical troubleshooting approach.
- Strong documentation and communication skill set.
- Team-player, takes initiative, and highly motivated.
- Familiarity with Memphis area civil engineering practices and regulations is advantageous.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work for extended periods of time standing, when needed.
- Work is often performed in tight quarters, and physical dexterity is necessary to perform job functions.
- Comfortable working in an environment requiring exposure to noise.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Ability to lift or carry a maximum of 25 lbs.
