
Cross-Functional Intern
XLA is seeking motivated and detail-oriented interns to participate in our Cross-Functional XLA Internship Program. This structured rotational program provides hands-on experience across five core business areas: Human Resources, Recruiting, Accounting, Contracts, and Business Development. Interns will gain exposure to the full government contracting lifecycle—from talent acquisition and onboarding to financial operations, contract management, and opportunity development—while contributing to meaningful departmental initiatives.
Job Title: Cross-Functional Intern (HR, Recruiting, Accounting, Contracts, Business Development)
Department: Human Resources (Program Owner – Cross-Functional)
Reports To: Rotational Department Managers
Location: Washington DC Metro Area (Candidates must be local to the area as this is a hybrid position)
Salary: $20 per hour
Program Structure:
- 8–10 week internship program
- Rotations across five departments:
o Human Resources
o Recruiting
o Accounting
o Contracts
o Business Development - Each rotation includes:
o Assigned mentor/supervisor
o Hands-on project or task
o Exposure to department operations and tools
Key Responsibilities:
Human Resources
- Assist with onboarding activities and new hire documentation
- Conduct file audits and support compliance efforts
- Help update policies and internal documentation
Recruiting
- Screen resumes and support candidate sourcing
- Assist with job postings and applicant tracking
- Coordinate interview scheduling and candidate communications
Accounting
- Review semi-monthly timesheets for accuracy and completeness
- Support accounts payable and receivable processes
- Assist with invoice preparation and tracking
- Help with 401(k) audit documentation and payroll reconciliation
- Support budget tracking and month-end close activities
Contracts
- Assist with contract reviews and compliance tracking
- Support contract modifications and documentation management
- Create and maintain milestone tracking tools (e.g., task orders)
- Gather documentation for submissions (e.g., GSA schedules)
Business Development
- Conduct daily research on government contracting opportunities
- Support CRM updates, tracking, and reporting
- Perform market and competitor research
- Assist with past performance documentation and library maintenance
- Contribute to process improvement and special projects
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
